We never imagined that Nepalese/Indian food could be so deliciously prepared in this far flung outpost in the North Sea--but it was truly wonderful. Chicken dishes were fresh and tender, breads were tasty, rice dishes were terrific, and the home made paneer was excellent. Gurkha is a great choice if you are in the mood for a change of pace from the delicious local Scottish/Shetland cuisine.

Two AA rosette restaurant showcasing local produce, particularly lamb, fish and shellfish
There aren't too many places to indulge gastronauts on Shetland but this is definitely one of them. The bar to the hotel is just like any mid range pub, bar meals, football on the tv etc But walking through to the restaurant everything goes up a notch in quality. Nicely furnished, excellent menu with lots of local produce, some straight out of the sea! You can also order from the bar menu if you like. Decent portions so one is unlikely to go away hungry. Liked it so much we went twice in a week.

Visited here on a day in Northmavine. Lovely cafe- great views and scones were fresh out of the oven- amazing! Once you've refuelled here, head to Tangwick Haa down the road for some history.

This hotel with friendly staff is a very good site to have dinner. Located at a quiet spot on the south Mainland, you're guaranteed to have a fine dinner. Don't forget to reserve, allowing the staff to have ample time to make you a very good meal!
We have opted for typical Shetland food with freshly caught fish, potatoes and veggies but the taste with the lemon sauce and capers was exquisite!

Located in the Shetland Museum and Archives, Hay's Dock Cafe Restaurant offers stunning views over Lerwick harbour and the best local produce, simply cooked and beautifully presented.
Arriving in Lerwick on a blustery wet day and found ourselves in the Hay Dock Cafe around lunch time. The Fish Chowder was a perfect Antidote to some pretty rubbish weather, so much so we popped in again the following week before we left to have a second go at it.....oh yes...and the cakes as well......and the coffee is good, nice view and the blinds are worth more than a cursory glance!!

Fantastic breakfast served until 11am, homemade muesli, porridge, and freshly scrambled Shetland eggs. Delicious soups created every day in-house. Big doorstep sandwiches and panini made to order. Shetland smoked salmon specials. Tempting cakes, cheesecakes, scones and muffins baked daily. Last orders for food 4pm. We use local produce wherever possible. Always striving to make the best coffee. Sit outside on a fine day enjoying James's delicious cheesecake watching Lerwick life in action. Local Art Exhibitions. Free wifi.
had lunch here during Shetland wool week, and luckily Cullen Skink was on the menu. for us non-shetlanders it is a smoked fish chowder. Delicious.
I stopped back during the blowy rainy week and was always delighted by the food and the staff. this is one of the best places for lunch in Lerwick

Listed in yell.com at http://www.yell.com/s/restaurants-shetland+islands.html and I ate there last week.
Outside this restaurant looks unpromising, but inside it is cozy and welcoming. We really enjoyed our food and I discovered that soda and lime is an excellent drink with Oriental food. As another reader noted, the coconut rice is extremely good. Be aware that the entree and the rice to go with it are ordered and priced separately.

I have been to this cafe on a previous trip and was looking forward to eating in this cafe since I booked my trip to Shetland. It did not disappoint, the fish and chips were amazing. It is a small cafe but clean and well run. It's a cash only place so remember to bring your purse /wallet with you

The Great Wall Is The Largest Chinese Resturant On The Shetland Islands
My wife and I were in Shetland visiting her parents and decided to go into Lerwick with them for a meal, I checked on TA and decided the Great Wall looked good and had plenty of positive reviews.
Noting that it opened at 16:30 for Dinner suited the four of us as we wanted to catch the 20:30 inter island ferry back home, we arrived at 17:00 and there were no other customers inside yet, hardly unusual so early in the day, we waited a few minutes and a staff member came out and showed us to a table gave us menus and took a drinks order.
Ten minutes passed and we received half of our drinks order and were told he’d be with us in a moment, another few tables had come in too and were looking for service, twenty more minutes passed with still no service or drinks and the other customers who had come on began to walk out, We paid for the drinks we did receive 2/4 and left at 17:55
50 minutes without even an attempt to take an order or let us know what the problem was, all it would have took is to say that for whatever reason they are not ready or at the very least give us an indication of when we could have ordered.
We headed over to the Indian across the road and enjoyed a very good meal.
I’m sure the food is worthy of the generally positive feedback this restaurant enjoys but sadly the lack of service resulted in 4 of us and 11 other diners simply walking out
Disaster of a place

Family friendly cafe serving snacks, home bakes and delicious coffee. Free wifi.
I suspect we were the only non-locals in here over a busy lunchtime. Very good for coffee/cake or a light lunch., Two soups were on offer plus a range of cooked dishes and sandwiches. Noisy but it is family-friendly. I'd definitely go again on another visit.
