We started early morning at 7.30 from Rameshwaram by our taxi for Devipattaman, Uthirakosamangai and Tirupullani as a day trip from Rameshwaram. We Visited Mangalanatha Swamy Temple. A really beautiful and serene temple. There is a divine feeling when you enter the temple. This temple is having around 3000 years old with a beautiful Gopuram with beautiful carvings throughout the temple. As you walk around the temple on your left side you will see directions for the Emerald Natarajan temple. The deity is supposed to be made of Emerald however you can see this only on special days, other days the idol is covered with sandalwood paste, I believe to cool down the effect of the idol. Here a Sphatik lingam is kept in a box and poojari gets it from box and put on a special spot in front of main deity and performs abhisekak with various things. After completing abhisekam and after clearing the shivlingam is put back in Box. This is a daily routine and we witnessed the process just at two feet distance and having seated on earth just near sphatik lingam. This abhishekam starts at 12.30 p.m. everyday. Then we took Prasad of rice, Sāmbhar and dal with buttermilk in the temple. There is also a big temple of Goddess Parvati also in campus. A lifetime memorable visit.

Lakshman Teertham is near by Ram Teertham is a living temple and Lord Shiva is ceremoniouusly worshiped here in the sanctum. Legends say Lakshman healed his wounds post Ramayana war by praying to Lord Shiva here and hence the nearby tank to assist during his stay.
It's a peaceful place and most days it's not as crowded compared with other temples. Small temple inside the garbaghuha, so pooja and rituals can be done pretty fast with nominal cost.
The tank having a temple structure in the middle surrounded waters is a sight to behold. Lots of fish swim carefree, why not? One can buy fish food from nearby shop at very nominal cost and feed them to heart's content. The fish occasionally takes food from your hands. A little patience and respect for the fish goes a long way.
Lots of souvenir shops are around, selling mostly religious items like photos of temple, photo books, artifacts, rudraksh and most importantly if you lucky, you can get a piece of Ram Sethu (that floating stone on which Lord Ram and his monkey army passed over mighty Indian Ocean to vanquish Ravana ) all for yourself.
Temple timings are:
Morning 6:00 am to noon 12:00 pm, Evening 4:00 pm to 8:00pm.
One can park thier vehicles right beside the temple.
One can hire a Rickshaw (a local tricycle that drives on pullers muscles for smooth comfort of guests) to visit additional 4/5 Teerthams in Rameswaram which are outside Ramanathaswamy temple complex. The whole site seeing takes hardly 2 hrs.
Nearest airport is at Madurai, 3 & half hrs away. Rameswaram has its own railway station and bus transport system, which connects pilgrims and others to rest of the part of the country.
I would recommend visiting after noon hours during November due to very less or no pilgrims around. though the best time is anytime round the year.

Nice place, providing awesome views of Rameswaram, just like a bird's eye view.
No wonder Lord Ram stepped on this mound of rocks to recce and strategize new course of actions.
Am imprint of Lord is kept, called as "Paduka Charana" on top of mound, you reach to the top by climbing lots of stairs, say 80.
A landscape photographer's delight is this place.

RAMALINGA VILASAM PALACE – RAMANATHAPURAM
This palace was built during the reign of Kizhavan Sethupathi (1674-1710 CE) the most popular among the Sethupathi Kings. The palace building consists of a Darbar hall and an ostentatious dwelling area. The murals found in this building representing the life pattern of the Sethupathi kings, scenes depicting their battles with the Maratha kings of Thanjavur and their European contacts are quite exquisite.
