The village of Cacela Velha is worth the trip. There a a couple of restaurants and a cafe there but they get busy especially in the summer. Parking is a challenge when the Arisan market is on. I recommend the Nights of Enchantment when it is on. Experience the history of the Arabic Algarve, There are some steps that go down to the litle beach just beyond the Cemetary. Heed the signs for snakes on the path and watching for the tide. You can cross over the river to a much bigger beach on foot when the tide is low or get a boat from Fabrica, where there is another restaurant and coffee kiosk if the river is high.

Monte Gordo's beachfront is peppered with outdoor bars, kiosks, cafes and restaurants. Therefore, those who would like to enjoy a tasty snack or refreshing cocktail will find there are many establishments from which to choose. Families will be happy to know that the beach at Monte Gordo is ideal for young children because it's wide and flat. In addition, the water is quite warm, making it a perfect choice for swimming enthusiasts.
Absolutely gorgeous beach soft white sand, Very wide and long seems to go on forever plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas €10 for 2people for the day. Various restaurants cafes and bars along the front. Love the wooden walk way the length of the beach great for bikes, push chairs, wheel chairs, or just a lovely stroll. ☀☀

We first visted Alagoa in 1990, the beach is still very recognisable. We walked up from Manta Rota recently - a nice walk. The beach is serviced and is a nice place for families etc. We didn't get as far as checking out the restaurants but we were tempted. These expansive Beaches are amongst the best in the Algarve.

lovely little town, that has been well looked after and all the restaurants have the same font, thats a nice touch. Slightly touristy in places but in true Portuguese style it does not get in the way, just relax enjoy the feel of the place.
Worth the visit and enjoy.

We had an absolutely fantastic week with Faro del Sur.. everything was perfect from start to finish! The apartment was really nice with plenty of space and nice river views. Monica is a really brilliant guide and totally goes out of her way to make your stay with them special and perfect.. she was completely adaptable and when she had a good idea of a great activity was flexible to change the plans to suit us as we were the only ones on holiday with them at this time of year. Esme was also a really lovely guide for the biking and kayaking and she too related really well to my English family of 3 kids aged 16, 14 and 10. I felt so relaxed under their guidance and having Monica drive us to the various activities was great so I didn't need to hire a car!

This castle, which played such an important role in the defense of Portugal from a possible invasion from Spain, has been sadly left in a state of abandonment. There is a good view of the white houses of the town below but inside the walls there isn't really much to see. We were here during a medieval fair and the central part was taken up by stands selling drinks and typical foods. At least the entry fee is cheap, less than 2 euros if I recall.

My second trip up,the river. 95% of the passengers were Portuguese and so the commentary was a bit limited this time but who cares. The meal at the restaurant was fantastic as was the entertainment , just great value, oh , and if you just want a tranquil river cruise followed by a quiet meal for two then probaky not got you. I love this trip.
