Ginger Bistro

Reviewed By pqvx - Belfast, United Kingdom

Pleasant environment; service good; menu potentially interesting, but let down by the quality of their meat. Two of us had the rib-eye; both were tough and tasteless. No excuse for that.
Chips weren’t great either, to be honest – and the meals would have benefited from a bit more colour and variety on the plate. As it is, the dish looks very sparse – steak in the middle (a bit of spinach hidden underneath); and one of those ridiculous little pots that everybody insists on serving your chips in nowadays.

It’s been a while since I’ve sat in the restaurant but I’m basing my review on the two takeaways I’ve had in the last two weeks. The food was fantastic- especially the chicken pathia and the chicken was nice and tender. The garlic naan bread was delicious too.

We first discovered The Welcome a few months ago having read some wonderful reviews and we weren't disappointed! Everything from the food, the setting and the attentive staff was fantastic. We have been back several times as a couple, with friends and with family and the atmosphere has always been relaxed and welcoming. Nothing is to much trouble even when you have a fussy eater to cater for!
They certainly live up to their name!

West Gourmet Sandwich Bar

Reviewed By Keith W

I would regularly visit West to grab a salad or a Sandwich during my lunch, as it is within walking distance of the office. The first thing to note about West is that the queue at lunchtime is manic, as it is within walking distance of not just my office, but quite a lot of offices and shops in town. The premises is very small, and not at all designed to cope with the amount of customers that visit between 12.30pm and 2pm. In the queue, you will often have to duck out of the way of food service coming from the kitchen and used crockery being taken back in. The ordering process involves shouting over others across the counter to make yourself heard over all of the other customers doing exactly the same.
When you do get the food, it is decent. The salads are well dressed and come in large portions. The Buffalo Chicken wrap is a winner as well. It is by no means expensive, but it is not cheap. There are better options in Belfast city centre, but if it is healthy food you're craving, West could be an option.

Holohans At The Barge

Holohan's is a family owned Irish restaurant situated on the Belfast Barge and permanently moored beside the Waterfront theatre and Queens Bridge in the heart of Belfast City. Holohan's unusual and picturesque setting is the perfect accompaniment to the unique dining experience, based around great Irish produce, recipes and warm, genuine Irish hospitality. Using classic recipes, updated with modern cooking techniques and some of the best local ingredients, the chefs at Holohan's produce food that is both nostalgic and contemporary. There is also a real focus on locally sourced craft beer, ale and cider, and a great selection of some unusual Irish whiskey's. As a family Holohan's has valued their gift for hospitality through three generations, the current owners grandmother, Sabina Holohan , encouraged the family to welcome guests "as if it were visiting your home." With modern life accelerating at such a fast pace, we often forget that the most important part of hospitality is to be hospitable, something for which the Irish have been renowned the world over. While there is an informal and relaxed ambience at Holohan's, the staff is nevertheless consummately professional, with a fantastic knowledge of our food, drinks and provenance. The Irish have a rich and wonderful culinary heritage, our extensive research has gathered a wealth of cooking methods, recipes and techniques from the last three hundred years. Many of the dishes on our menu have a weight of history behind them and have been passed on down through the generations. From the peasant food of the North West born out of hardship and necessity which gave us dishes like Craibechan, a delicious savory porridge made from pearl Barley and of course the house specialty, BOXTY, which comes from the traditional word bacstai or aran bocht ti meaning 'poor house bread'. Boxty on the griddle, And Boxty on the pan; The wee one in the middle Is for Mary Ann.[ Our goals are to provide and champion our particular brand of food and service in a relaxed and visually striking setting. While we celebrate Irish culture, we try to do so without resorting to Irish cliches, we feel the "Irish-ness" comes from the welcome, the hospitality and the wealth of history contained within our menu. At Holohan's, we aim to work in a transparent and ethical manner, ranging from the treatment of the animals that provide our meat, to sourcing sustainable fish and using seasonal, locally grown fruit and vegetables. Fast becoming known around the world for the quality of our produce, our little Island is becoming known as the larder of Europe, and what better way to demonstrate and celebrate this then using Irish produce to cook Irish food. Holohan's is the perfect place to enjoy this resurgence in Irish cuisine, and more than just food, we aim to give a good night out! We hope to see you soon, Holohan's at the Barge

Not much choices on dishes but all of them sounded very appealing.
Finally chose the white wine fish boxtry which was a great option for 10£, crispy out, tasty in, just as we like it !
Nice serving woman, along with barge atmosphere and very soft prices make it a great place to eat at.
Definitely recommended.

Kurrito

Reviewed By CiaraSlevin - Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

Used to love Kurrito, but it has recently gone completely downhill. The food is now carelessly thrown together, flavourless and of poor quality. A drastic and sad deterioration. My go-to dish was always a bowl with butternut squash and chickpeas. Last two visits have resulted in large bowls of sticky, stodgy rice with tasteless chickpeas and bland butternut squash. A man behind the counter (new owner/ manager perhaps) was extremely rude to female members of staff - shouting orders them. Whilst he was pleasant to customers I find it uncomfortable to witness hard working staff being belittled in such a manner. Awful.

DINING AT THE LANTERN, Belfast Exciting established restaurant in the heart of Belfast city centre. A fantastic High quality Northern Irish ingredients create a varied menu with the focus firmly on great seasonal produce. An established favourite in the hearts of locals, The Lantern is the perfect place to catch up with friends or celebrate those special occasions.

The Lantern lunchtime menu is just superb. Good variety and well priced. Portion size is also much better than some other restaurant lunchtime specials. The beer battered fish and chips are just so tasty - with peas and tartar sauce with a squeeze of fresh lemon to make it. The coffee here is also very good - another great way to judge a good restaurant - good from start to finish!
