Moulins souterrains du Col-des-Roches

This is a most remarkable facility with a fascinating history that goes back to the 17th century. One is filled with admiration for the courage and ingenuity of the people who constructed and operated it so long ago, working with oil lamps and primitive tools alongside a raging Torrent deep underground. And bravo for the local group of volunteers who worked tirelessly for 15 years to renovate and equip it for public visits.
A knowledgeable lady gave us an excellent guided tour of the underground works, and audio guides were also available in various languages. The associated museum contains numerous interesting technical artefacts that are very well presented.
Picnic facilities and plenty of car parking. Well worth a visit!

Saut du Doubs

We walked rather early within the year on the french side of Lac de Moron to the waterfall. We liked that side of the river a lot, because it's sunny and thus warmer, plus you often walk right above the waterfront. A little kiosk ("loup solitaire") was already open, whereas the restoration options on the swiss side of the river would open only on May 1rst. Check it out by phone before setting out, or take a picknick with you!

International Museum of Watches

Amazing display of time pieces. Properly called something like Le Musee International d'Horlogerie.Take your time strolling through and note the history. The emphasis here is not so much on the watches themselves but, rather, on the science that spawned them. As you meander the case and displays note how the detail work evolved. There might also be a special exhibition on the lower right level as you enter. Generally group tours are made in advance. Otherwise, ask for an audio tour. Stay a while. It's very interesting. And the train station is nearby.

Croisiere sur le Lac des Brenets

Reviewed By YashGoliya - Mumbai, India

We visited Lac des Brenets on 24 June 2014. The cruise was beautiful, moss on trees and ground gave the forest a tropical look. This makes it quite different from other places in Switzerland. We even spotted a few leeches and wild animals. The waterfall is not visible unless you hike! This was the reason why we didn't really enjoy our trip. The ground was slippery and we didn't want to take any risks, so we could only see the waterfall partially.
Why we didn't enjoy:
1) The biggest problem in reaching Lac des Brenets was its inaccessibility. We had to change many trains and it took us 3.5 hours to reach the port from Zweisimmen (our base). So we were a bit tired even before reaching the port.
2) The boats were quite old, as compared to those in Thunersee.
3) We had high expectations.
4) A part of the forest looked like the ones in India. So we weren't amused by it.
Why you should go:
1) If you can reach the port within 1-2 hours.
2) If you like seeing Forests.
3) If you like canoeing, we saw many people in canoes.
4) If you are willing to hike. We went in the wet season (June), I presume that during other months, the hike would be a lot easier.

Creux du Van

Amazing hike taking you to a beautiful scenery. Hiked 2,5 h uphill then about 2km flat at the top then 2h downhill. Depending on the season, food options are limited so check ahead (we asked at the base station in Noiraigue, which is also where we parked our car). At the top there was a family of friendly mountain goats. Great hike with the added benefit that you can do a full loop. Highly recommended if you are in fairly good physical condition.

Gorges de l'Areuse

Reviewed By rhstd - Baselland

Took a train to Boudry and walked through this beautiful gorge to Noiraigues. This took us 3.5 hours with lots of stops on the way to take photos. We chose this way as having knee problems its easier to walk up hill. Most people do the walk in the other direction. This is a beautiful gorge. As it rained the day before it was wet and slippery in places. There is a restaurant at Champ du Moulin and also a railway station if you only want to do a shorter walk. There is only one train an hour and this is a different line than the one which stops at Boudry. So if you've parked your car either in Boudry or Noiraigue. Its advisable to plan how to return to your car.

Impedibile

Watch Museum of Le Locle

Reviewed By 405markw - Stamford, England, United Kingdom

We visited this museum as part of our investigation into the Dubois family and found it fascinating. The history of the measurement of time from the earliest clocks to the latest digital watches is clearly shown (but only in French!). It is in an interesting old house, too, and the staff are very attentive with good English. They put the English film on for us in the little cinema. There are 3D videos in some of the rooms showing the automata working, well worth seeing.

Bateaux du Saut du Doubs

Reviewed By enzianum - Zurich, Switzerland

It seems most of visitors are approaching the Doubs falls from France. Suggest an alternative: Start in Le Locle, hop on an modest train to Les Brenets, walk either to the falls, or take a trip by boat with a 10 minutes walk.
If you are interested in architecture, visit hotel Rive du Doubs. It is an early work of Corbusier!
