A beautiful pub dating back to 1280AD full of character with a luxurious feel. Perfect for a coffee or a quick pint but also a special place for lunch and dinner. Now serving Sunday Roasts with meat from the owners farm 2 miles from the pub.
I love The Tobie Norris! This is a proper pub, but with great food, fabulous ambience, and loads of charm. We ate delicious food of chicken in a box, pressed belly pork, and Yorkshire puddings with gravy - all superb!
We happened to turn up on the night of Oakham Ales tap takeover, which was excellent luck, because we ended up having lots of free beer!
I think this is probably my favourite pub in the country, and definitely in Stamford!

A magnificent oak-panelled space is the fine dining setting at The George Hotel of Stamford, one of England's greatest coaching inns. A mix of regular locals and hotel guests can always be found relaxing at bare oak tables beneath an eye-catching hand-painted ceiling. In summer, or on mild nights, they like to sit outside under the heated canopy in the ivy-clad courtyard. Open for grand lunches and dinner, the George Hotel Restaurant serves traditional yet imaginative English dishes, specialising in seafood. Lighter daytime dishes such as Dover sole are superceeded at night with heartier meals such as rack of lamb with fresh herbs and redcurrant jelly, and roast English beef carved at the table on a silver trolley. Accompanied by traditional trimmings, of course.
Stayed at the George earlier this year on a Saturday night and had a lovely dinner. That was great. Decided to go back but this time for lunch with some other friends and that took place yesterday. The experience was quite different in many disappointing ways.
When we arrived, I went to the Desk outside the Oak Room and informed the lady there that we had booked a table for 4 at 1:00pm and I asked if our friends had attempted to check in yet — no, not yet. She suggested we wait in the Cocktail Bar and she would send someone over with Menus and to take a Drinks order.
We made our way over to the Cocktail Bar and our friends were there already. We sat down and waited for someone to appear. No one came. Eventually I asked the bar lady to get a message to the restaurant that we were still waiting and eventually a woman came with Menus but disappeared before we were able to order a pre-lunch drink. She came back close to 1:30pm and took our meal order as well as our table drinks.
The Menu is quite confusing. The starters are all individually costed and the mains are costed to include a dessert from the trolley or cheese. I asked how they charged if you wanted a starter and no desert — would there be a reduction against the main course price? No, although you could have a complimentary coffee instead.
The service in the restaurant was very good as was the food but the menu was quite clunky. The ladies in our party had a starter as their main and my male companion and I had a starter plus a main. The desserts we were entitled to, we passed over to our wives and we just had coffees which we paid for.
The total bill including two glasses of wine, a bottle of San Pellegrino, four starters, two mains, two desserts and two coffees came to over £150.
Used to really like Stamford and The George but won’t be rushing back for lunch.

We are an independent, family run Italian Bistro located on St Marys Street Stamford. Our menu is based around great Antipasti, had stretched pizzas, tasty pastas and also grill dishes and salads. Our ingredients are sourced from local suppliers as much as possible. Great coffees and a well stocked bar with an exclusively Italian wine list.
Cloisters is a busy, clearly very popular, bistro, serving well executed dishes from a fairly standard Italian menu. A tuna steak was cooked nicely pink and was served with an interestingly dressed salad; other dishes were equally capably prepared but perhaps lacking a "wow" factor. Nevertheless, for a good value Italian meal, Cloisters cannot be faulted.
Service is friendly and very efficient.

We visited this outlet after Reading reviews and a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. There was a selection of sandwiches which were lovely and a homemade sausage roll. The scones were chocolate and orange and definitely worth trying them served with the orange marmalade as this was delicious. The cake selection was ok. My only slight criticism is it would have been nice to have been offered some more drinks during our tea rather than at the end when we had finished it. Would I visit again, yes and would I recommend, yes. A lovely tea with plenty of sweet treats

I have visited The Bombay Cottage many times but not so much recently because of work and recently married. However, wifi and I decide it’s time for a nice evening out...can’t get in for 1930, busy - good sign of BC’s continuing popularity. Arrive at our agreed time, 2030 - because we booked, straight to our table. Drinks and food ordered and boom! Just absolutely sublime food and service. BC should be way further up rankings, an absolute gem. Thanks Habib and the BC crew for a lovely evening.

Chinese restaurant and takeaway
Having had Hong Kong recommended to us, it was a very pleasant surprise to find we were invited to a family birthday dinner there. Very friendly welcome, which lasted all evening, a huge circular table for 7 adults and two (crispy duck hungry) teenagers, great service and mouth-watering dishes made it a memorable occasion (although the celebrant is trying to forget his age!). Drinks and extras all brought promptly and went home with a bag of Fortune Cookies, of course. Excellent choice, will return.
