Ruskin's View

Reviewed By johnhouston2 - Knaresborough, United Kingdom

Accessed from the church yard, Ruskin's View is named after the famous art critic John Ruskin, who declared it to be one of the loveliest views in England. He clearly wasn't alone in appreciating this lovely bend in the river, because the view was also painted by Turner.
A short walk from the church, and a lovely spot for a bit of quiet reflection.

Churchmouse at Barbon

Took the husband for a drive out and lunch, having passed it previously when out walking. It was a delight! With only six tables in this café/newsagents/deli/grocers, they soon filled up. We ordered the ploughman's and an antipasti plate. Both were prepared freshly, were delicious and good value. They were accompanied by homemade buns which were warm and fresh. My only gripe would be the coffee. I ordered a latte with two shots and I did not like it - no depth of flavour and bitter. I think they should revert back to Atkinson's. Would love to visit again.

Devil's Bridge

You can hardly miss this lovely old bridge as you go through KLonsdale, but in summer, weekends and school holidays you may be frustrated in not being able to park. The very narrow angled spaces by the two paying loos get filled up easily and on the other side of the river the parking is smaller and just as busy. That said, the walk from here along the river into town is lovely and you can reward yourself for the final steep upward bit with a tea or coffee in the several cafes.

Masons Freehouse is owned and run by a family trio. The pub has recently undergone a full refurbishment to create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for everyone...

Holidaying at Ingleton, we wanted to support a local business for Sunday lunch. There are positives to this pub: it looks good, the staff are friendly and the beer is good. However, the roast beef dinner was disappointing. Good Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were let down by tough beef (pre-sliced and heated through), over cooked frozen vegetables and a jug of gravy based on the Turkey option...
Opinion suggests that the midweek pie is to die for, so the advice seems to be to avoid eating here on a Sunday.

White Scar Cave

Reviewed By lindajohnstone - Scotland, United Kingdom

Paid a visit here on foggy wet Saturday. I was with my daughter her 2 boys (8 & 6) and another of my grandsons - aged 9. Tour guide was very informative and gave us lots of facts about the caves, answering all sorts of questions took a bit longer to do , due to all the talking. advisable to wear 'sensible footwear' - trainers are fine, but could get wet...warm jackets too are essential. Hard hats provided. The walk way is narrow in places and you have to stoop to get through in places, but the majority of the walk is fine and open. There is a section where you have to climb rather a lot of straight steps -but again not a problem and the guide did point this out. We had a family ticket and thought it was well worth the price paid, as the kids really enjoyed themselves. Surprising whats under our feet and we dont know...

This is a beautiful church. The interior is very impressive with high vaulting and delicate enormous lancet Windows. The church's Norman beginnings can be seen in the huge columns and rounded arches. The stained glass is gorgeous and there are lots of other interesting details around the church, the entrance porch, doorways, decoration, tower and battlements.

First time we've done the ride with Virgin after doing one in Dubai and it didn't disappoint! Tried for 4 1/2 years to book lol, wife pregnant then weather conditions. Due to my work I can only do specific last minute bookings and when cancelled the voucher was extended by 6 months. Bought the experience on Groupon and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this experience to anyone, can't wait to do it again soon and the pilot and his staff are fantastic too, very informative during the flight with a commentary of what you can see....and we got an added bonus of the fire brigade turning up after landing thinking we'd crashed into pylons lol.
