10 Things to Do in Karas Region That You Shouldn't Miss
The ǁKaras Region, also spelled !Karas Region, is the southernmost and least densely populated of the 14 regions of Namibia; its capital is Keetmanshoop. The name assigned to the region reflects the prominence of the Karas mountain range in its southern part. The ǁKaras region includes the magisterial districts of Keetmanshoop, Karasburg, Bethanie, and Lüderitz.

We visited Kolmanskop on a self-guided tour (guided tours are available at 9.30 and 11am) and although we only saw about half of the buildings we had a wonderful time there. It really is a most impressive setting and the renovated Kasino is remarkable.
Lovely restaurant and very interesting exhibition in the Kasino back rooms.
Sadly there were no maps available short of the map on the back of a book.

The main route to this location is quite interesting travelling in parts right along the waters edge of a relatively secluded inlet, before witnessing the very windy and rough Atlantic Ocean. There are a number of choices of viewpoint, but Diaz Point is the most spectacular at the tip of the land mass. It is a tall rock that used to be accessible via a (now broken) bridge leading to some steps. The steps can still be reached across some rocks, but part of the handrail is missing and the ascent can be dangerously windy, especially at the top. Extreme care is required providing you are prepared to take the risk. Even viewing the large rough seas makes a visit to this area worthwhile.

When you go from aus to Lüderitz, you will see some kilometers behind Aus a sign to a small pat road to the right, about 500 m later on a gravel road you'll come to small observation point where you overlook a small waterwhole with some luck you may spot wild horses.
If you are lucky you may also spot them right next to the main road

Heiko and his assistant operate the catamaran, Zeepard, from the Luderitz waterfront. They depart at exactly 08:00 (so make sure you arrive on time!) and it costs N$400 per person. Get there early (07:45 'ish) to make sure you get first pickings of the Seating options on the boat.
In the winter, make sure you take enough warm clothing with, since the wind over the Atlantic, as you exit the harbour, is extremely cold. Blankets are provided as well, but it is recommended that you dress warmly and come prepared. Heiko briefly introduced himself and explained what we may see on the tour and then headed out.
We cruised past Diaz point, where we saw some seals on the nearby rock, and then made our turn towards Halifax island. On the island there were a few Penguin colonies and we spent a few minutes watching them from reasonably close. We were offered some warm drinks, which were quite welcome! Upon our return, we passed by Diaz point again, saw the ruins of an old whaling station, as we headed back past the first lagoon, Luderitz bay and back into the harbour.
The tour takes 2 hours, give or take a few minutes, and is worthwhile experience. Heiko is not only a knowledgeable skipper, but also a local, able to share a lot of information about the ocean and history of Ludertiz.

It is worth walking here and paying 25N$ (only) entrance.
First we heard story of the house, from construction to present use. Then walking thru rooms, enjoying old days style and luxury.
View over Luderitz is really nice.
For us it was about half an hour, but not at all bad way to spend your time.

As others have mentioned, this tour is fantastic. Well organized, fascinating, and thoroughly enjoyable. There were numerous stops along the way to explore a number of ghost towns and other interesting points of interest. The Bogenfels arch has to be seen in person to fully appreciate how absolutely huge it is. The included lunch was nice too. Door to door was about 9 hours (8:30am - 5:30PM).
Only minor complaint was the booking process was rather disorganized and frustrating at times. It required 8 separate emails to finalize the booking, and much of the time, I got the impression that they didn't care whether I gave them my money.

We enjoyed every moment of the scenic and well planned excursion on this spacious, luxurious and modern catamaran. The booking experience was painless & the crew (Cassie& Rene) were very helpful and professional. We got to see dolphins and penguins too - magical! For sure one of the highlights of our Namibian holiday!

A good beach but the main attraction was flamingoes close by - but they are in a protected enty so you have to watch them from a distance.
