Kalvari Mount

Reviewed By drtaher - Mumbai, India

My family and I visited Kalvari Mount in February 2018. This is a hill-top garden and observation point that literally takes your breath away. It is nearly 10 km from Idukki and the road isn't the best, but the place itself, and its beauty, more than compensates for the difficulty in reaching the top.
Do sit under the cupola and admire the majestic views of the waters below and the small Islands within. This is a good place to take photos.

Idukki Dam

Reviewed By Shalet V - Florida

It's an excellent engineering feat and a great experience. Excellent views of the lake. It's a combination of two arch dams between three hills, I think. Our experience started with a bad taste. Site was supposed to open at 9 AM, but it was delayed since the police guards weren't there and they didn't get ready until around 9:30!! There's no clear sign or directions along the way to get to the Dam site. This is a typical example of poorly planned and maintained tourist locations in India. It could have been an excellent tourist location due to the importance of this site. Also, photography is not allowed anywhere!! Why? Due to security reasons? Have they checked google maps and countless sites with high definition images of the dam? Walt over the dam is exciting, but may be a bit too long for some people. There's paid transportation available about which there's no information displayed at the entrance!! Overall it's a nice experience. I heard that one of the best places to enjoy the beauty of the lake is to visit the high point at Kalvary Mount. I couldn't find time to make that trip. Hope you will. :)

It is very small park, but best place for photos, entrance fee is 10INR. Evening is the best time to visit this place. It will open till 5.30PM. you can able to see the Idukki dam view from here. Genspice spice chocolates are available in the shop which is inside the park, these chocolates are very different from normal chocolate, the box cost is 100INR 10pcs of 5gm chocolates. It is bit costly but you can feel the taste of many spice flavor chocolates, especially masala flavor is very good.

Situated on the other end of the Idukki dam. The structure is so beautiful and take a slow walk over the dam for about an hour to reach other end of the Idukki dam - very exciting and romantic. Have seats in between to take rest. Carrying water bottle is a must.
