Surf South West run Surfing lessons, surf courses and surf holidays at Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands in North Devon. Mission Learn, Improve, Excel Company Overview In 1996 Darren Burrett, an established British Surfing Association instructor with many years Surfing and coaching experience, fulfilled his lifelong ambition to run his own north devon surf school. From these small beginnings, Surf South West is now internationally recognised as a provider of Surfing lessons in Devon and surf holidays in Europe, Costa Rica and Africa. We were the first surf school to be awarded level 4 status by the British Surfing Association. This is the highest level attainable, and is awarded in recognition that Surf South West has the highest standards of surf coaching. We have achieved 'Approved Surf School' status for all our years in existence and all our instructors are also qualified beach lifeguards.
I've always wanted to try Surfing, so I decided to book a myself a group Surfing lesson with Surf South West. When I arrived it turned out that I was the only one in the group (probably because it was off-season). I had my one-on-one lesson with Jack. Jack was really friendly, enthusiastic and made everything super clear and really easy to understand. We ended up having the whole of the sea to ourselves for 2 hours and I managed to stand up fully twice, which was amazing. I would definitely recommend this surf school and in particular a lesson with Jack.

I booked a kids Surfing lesson during Easter - the temperature was 8 degrees, so there was no way I was getting in the water but the kids (9 and 10) were insistent. Their instructor, Ian, was amazing. He ensured they had winter kit, including gloves, boots and hood. Their safety and enjoyment was paramount. Ian got both of them standing up after a bit of tuition - they really felt like pro surfers with the encouragement he was giving them. Although Mum and Dad were frozen on the beach, I think the kids would have stayed in all day with Ian if they could!

Lyndon Wake Surf School is a unique attraction, run by Surfing professionals and located at Baggy Lodge on the scenic Baggy Point (North side of Croyde bay). Offering surf lessons, coasteering and surf hire, the school is becoming established as the place to be for all ages and abilities. Fun filled sessions, days and weeks can be spent here with a welcoming vibe.
We booked a Surfing lesson for my boyfriend & sons. Unfortunately, there wasn't much surf on on the day we had booked but they had a paddle boarding lesson instead & got to ride a few baby waves. Lyndon & James made the session lots of fun. James took the time with my eldest, who was struggling & getting frustrated, by taking him to one side & really helped him. They all had a great time & they can't wait to have another when we visit next guest.

A short and easy 2.7 mile walk on the South West Coast Path out to the tip of Baggy Point and back again, taking in spectacular views of the coastline towards Bideford Bay and Hartland. Children will love the whale bones and the old wreck post, as well as the rocks and cliffs. A gently sloping walk out to Baggy Point and back. An alternative route back includes a short steep climb.
It's worth the struggle getting to park if you like a good walk and, on a clear day, there are stunning views across to Lundy or in both directions along the Devon and Somerset coast. You can Park in the National Trust car park (payment for non members). But if you are determined it's worth the struggle,at peak holiday times, getting there.

Lovely enclosed sandy bay with many surfers to observe. It’s great to watch them ride the surf. Could watch for hours! Haven for dog walkers as well. Parking is expensive but worth it if staying for an extended period.
Many bars, restaurants and cafes in the area. Why not twin a visit here to one to Staunton Sands a short drive away?

Amplify your "learn to surf" experience with the best 'Instructor to Student' ratio of any Surfing Great Britain surf school. More attention for you, means you'll be learning faster and progressing sooner! From individuals, kids, colleges, team building and stags and hens we have the Surfing lessons to suit your needs. Lots of fun, on the beach and in the sand pit; we run 2 lessons a day at 9:30 and 1:30 but happy to arrange times to suit. We supply all the equipment; with onsite changing facilities, toilets, and showers. Enjoy a warm drink, hot pasty or tasty ice cream from our shop after your surf. Find us in the Old Cream Shop in the heart of the village.
It's a nice place to surf and take a dip but it doesn't provide good facilities to change or shower after getting in the water. The toilets are filthy and there is an expensive charge for wifi (there's no signal by the beach).

We have been to the Deckchair cinema about 4 times, it's such a fun evening for kids and adults. Great way to see a current film. Kids and grown ups get to buy popcorn and drinks! We take a pillow along to add to the cosy set up. A definite must for an evening out. Don't be put off by the less advanced way you reserve the tickets, it works seamlessly, and a real reflection of the boutique and entrepreneurial nature of the cinema. Definitely on my Croyde bucket list!

The yoga, fitness, wonderful food, great surf, beautiful scenery and fun packed schedule really gave me a boost and positive outlook for the future.
The reboot team of Blakey, Bex, Phil and Lyn really made everyone feel welcome and taylored to every individuals fitness/dietry needs. The other guests were also a very friendly bunch which had me laughing all week long.
I will definitely be going back next year (mainly for the food and the petanque!)
