This is a fully refurbished modern yet characteristic delightful country pub offering a great homecooked menu with traditional pub choices and NEW griddle & grill menu. All dishes are made and produced onsite with a large selection of burgers, pizzas, sizzlers and sharers. There is a full wine list and friendly efficient staff. The lodge benefits from easy access from the A47 just a few minutes from Dereham and 10 miles from Norwich. Large hard standing carpark and enclosed family garden. Good honest food at good honest prices, more than just a country pub. Also a bespoke wedding venue for the smaller wedding party who wish for an intimate day.

For value for money, linked to quality and quantity of food, this is just difficult to beat. Even mid week lunchtime, when it's quiet, it is a great place to eat and enjoy a good pint of Broadside as well. Staff attitude summed up by the response - "If we have got it, you can have it" Nothing too much trouble. Really should go more often - there is no reason not to. Wish they had the steak & kidney roly-poly suet on the menu again!!!

My husband, daughter and I had visited Darby’s previously and had enjoyed a lovely roast dinner. So, we decided to return today with friends and we were extremely disappointed.... 3 out of 4 of us found dog hairs in our roast dinners! I found one on my food and then my husband found one. We notified the waitress when she came to ask if everything was ok, she said she would tell the chef but no apology was given. On trying to continue to eat the meal (though we had been thoroughly put off by this stage) my husband continued to find at least 4 more hairs in his dinner, a friend also found a number of hairs in his. When the waitress came to clear the table we notified her again of the problem - we were offered no apology and the waitress’s exact words were “oh, I thought you were just joking”. She proceeded to take the plates out to the kitchen. My husband and I left a considerable amount of our food. We were offered no apology or reduction on the bill. Thoroughly disappointed at the lack of customer service and we will not be returning to Darby’s!

A traditional country free house, b&b and restaurant, with excellent home cooked food and luxury accommodation, in the middle of the beautiful Norfolk countryside.
Clearly a local favourite, and some excellent banter from the locals when we arrived.
The food was rather a let-down however. We had both ordered the same dish, a stilton chicken main. The sauce was very thin, had no evidence of any stilton, or indeed any cheese, and no evidence of any seasoning. I never salt food, other than chips, and landed up chucking on salt & pepper to try to elevate the flavour from blandness. Veg were overcooked to point of being mushy, and were obviously frozen (despite Norfolk being prime agricultural location).
We're usually quite tolerant raters, but this was just very disappointing.

Just moved into the area and was recommended this restaurant by local friends. Myself and my wife really enjoyed the evening and thought the food was fabulous and the staff incredibly friendly. I struggle to understand how some people can spend ages writing negative reviews, I have visited many restaurants in many places and The New Inn is fantastic.

Had lunch here with family, one member on a restricted diet, thought this might pose a problem, but fortunately not. Had a really good lunch, reasonably priced and friendly staff. Only criticism is that ordered a salad with no dressing but had been dressed when served but was changed with no problem. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced meal.

Had the Christmas menu for lunch. The meal was excellent, Salmon, Belly Pork and Christmas Pud on warm plates (except for the salmon). All were first class and freshly prepared and served by a very pleasant waitress. The price was quite reasonable for the meal. What more could be wished for?

We had trouble finding a place to eat that was open on a Monday lunchtime. With the car park ticket coming to an end we popped into this establishment. We asked for a menu & was told to look at a card on the counter. Their special was a pannini with free potato wedges for £5 (eating in). We opted for a meatball and a gammon & Cheddar & 2 coffees. Both came with salad. My husband enjoyed his, I found mine too dry. Coffee was average. Staff were kept busy serving take away customers. A busy and popular café but too basic for me.

Highly recommend the Christmas Afternoon Tea. Excellent choice, quality and quanatiy. Staff friendly and helpful. The change of ownership since my last review has not affected the experience. Still top notch. All appears freshly made and very tasty. Plenty of choices for the tea lover.
