A cosy place, seems to be popular amongst the local people as it always looks crowded during lunch hour (have been here a few times before). The food is traditional and good, not expensive and the staff is friendly. You can also watch games on TV and enjoy a drink if up to that. Worth the try if you are in town.

There! It's done! The new Italian bistro Jonquiere, The Piccoli, opened its doors in early 2014. You have heard about the new local restaurant? New decor, new atmosphere, sun Terrace, new menu prepared by our Chef ... You want to come try it? The Italian Bistro The Piccoli with its river scenery sometimes calm and sometimes troubled, his home, adds a touch more enjoyable if these precious moments. Whether for a dinner with friend (s), a romantic dinner, a business lunch, our chef will amaze you.
We accidentally found this restaurant on the internet and decided to give it a try - thank goodness we did! We would NEVER have found it otherwise - even with the address we were not sure to be correct...it`s hidden inside the the "cepal hotel" and didn´t even look open due to the early season. The restaurant has a great view on the river, must be beautiful in summer to sit outside. Apart from a few locals we were the only guests, but it didn`t feel awkward as it usually does to be in an almost empty place. Everyone was really nice and we even got through the evening despite our very mediocre French. My husband hat the "table d`hote" for $12 extra: free choice appetizer (scampi cocktail), soup (minestrone), spaghetti Bologna, free choice dessert (creme brülee) and coffee. I took the scallopina al parmiggiano and then canolli with mascarpone and a nice glas of wine. We come from Europe, so we`ve eaten better Italian food - but this was definitely a great alternative to all the sandwiches, burgers, poutine we`ve been eating! And tutto completti $70 (tip incl.) is less than we`ve paid for much less quality and taste the past weeks. So good job and we`d definitely come back!

We stopped here as we had just visited what was Hotel Dieu, the hospital where our first two children were born in the early 1970s. We were stationed at CFB Bagotville at that time. It was interesting to see so much that had changed, and yet some much was the same. The little restaurant that we stopped by had a nice menu. There was a little problem communicating, but that is to be expected in many cases. In the end, all were served as needed and we went on our way.

Mr. Pachon ships anywhere in Quebec. It's really the best cassoulet that I've ever tasted. There villa is best so comforting and they take really good care of their guest.

I have been many times to this part of Quebec but had never heard of this lovely restaurant until my colleague took me there for lunch. Loved the atmosphere, the décor. The menu was inventive and interesting and absolutely delicious. Most importantly for me, great wine line which allowed me to discover new wines from private collections. I'm just sorry I didn't know about this place before but will certainly go back on my next trip to Jonquiere. Fantastic!

The host at our bed and breakfast told us about Le Barillet restaurant, on St-Dominique (the main street in Jonquiere), but we were a bit sceptical, because many restaurants outside big cities that serve steak do not serve it well. But from Monday to Wednesday, they had a special (7.00$ for the second plate), so we went and tried it. We had the "côte de boeuf" (rib steak), and chicken brochette. The beef was excellent! Tender, cooked medium to perfection! It was served with a choice of baked potato, fries, rice or Greek potato. The chicken was a bit dry, but tasty and very fresh! They serve big bottles of beer, which can easily be shared. We also had sugar pie, but the dessert was not very good.
I must say that the service was not as good as the food: the waitress gave us our plates fast, and serves everything we as if she was in a rush.
Le Barillet in 5 points:
1. On the main street in Jonquiere (Saint-Dominique)
2. Has a nice Terrace, not opened today
3. Very good steak
4. Good ambience (it was busy, showing that it is a good restaurant)
5. Service not great

Spent a long weekend in northern Quebec without any hope of finding a great meal. Nice to have been wrong.
La Voie Maltée has 3 locations. Had lunch at Jonquiere location. Nice specials. Great soup. Very good ribs. Excellent micro-brewery stout. Excellent price. Place was full and service was acceptable.
Had supper at the Chicoutimi location. Huge step up. Great vibe in the bar. Excellent soup. Reasonable Cheddar fondue (fondue as in French for deep fried cheese, NOT fondu as in Swiss pot of melted cheese to dip your bread). I had a burger -- very nice. Tender, juicy. Wife had moules frites. Excellent mussels. Very tasty. White chocolate brownie for dessert -- nice finish. If I had to be back in Chicoutimi, I'd definitely return for another meal.

My wife and I had our first experience to eat here on Tuesday, and because we loved everything we had to come back today (Thursday) before heading back to Montréal. Too bad for us that we don't have L'entre-cote Riverin in Montréal.Thanks Alex Sandro, We hope to see you again !

As a beer lover, there was no way I could stay in Jonquière without checking out this microbrewery/pizza place.
The competition regarding beer is ferocious in the Saguenay region and even more so in Jonquière. What with all the microbreweries/brewpubs/bars, my expectations were high.
It was a beautiful day and the place was packed to the rafters. Their outside Terrace is relatively small and was full. Even inside, the only spot I could get was at the bar. Which wasn't that bad, as I could discuss their various beers with the bartender.
I went for the beer sampler option, which allows you to select 6 different beers for a set price. It was more expensive than elsewhere in Saguenay/Lac St-Jean, but all the beers were good. So no complaint in that regard.
The pizza was tasty, but too small for the price you pay. Even with a salad as a starter, I was still hungry when I was done.
The service is casual and friendly. But packed as the place was, it took a long time for the pizza to reach me. So don't go there is you are in a hurry and want to eat.
All in all, though the beers were nice and the food good, there's no denying that it's more expensive than the competition. For no apparent reason.
Still, a "must" for beer lovers visiting Jonquière!
