Illmitz (Hungarian: Illmic) is a market town in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland in Austria. It is located in a region to the east of the Lake Neusiedl (German: Neusiedlersee; Hungarian: Fertő tó) which is named the Seewinkel (lake corner).

My first visit with gourmet friends some five years ago left me with truly good impressions, even though just one evening following the famous (then) Michelin starred restaurant on the other side of Neusiedl lake. So I brought here my family (all grownups) for a late summer lunch even though the Austrian restaurant reviewers at Falstaff have recently notably reduced their score.
Parking right opposite easy to find. Temperatures truly summer high, so we went to the small Terrace (»garden«) in the back where the air was far cooler. The waitress only came to the restaurant when we were already seated. It was an afternoon hour between lunch and dinner, but the restaurant boasts being open for business throughout the day, so I was a bit surprised. Restrooms nice and very well kept.
Unfortunately, it seems that also the chef was taking an afternoon nap home at the time, as the dishes ordered and served were well below our expectations and even the current reduced Falstaff score. We were the single guests, so I would have expected great attention to our glasses, but… Wine list covers Burgenland very well, but somehow it proves my case that emerging wine tourism in the region still has a lot to learn from Italy and Spain – in its very center you do not expect to pay abominable markups for local wine produced within a twenty miles circle. Double the price in the local wine store? Shame! So instead of Tiglat we drank To with the producer only 2 miles away. As to the cuisine level, 9 on a 1 to 20 scale is more than enough for what we tasted that afternoon.
Again, it could be that the kitchen was running on ancillary staff during those hours. Perhaps the waitress had at the time also some additional work to do, like making up the tables inside. But then, I would kindly recommend the owners to close down the restaurant part between lunch and dinner and avoid such guests' disappointments. This is not a cheap fast food eatery!

Two or three years ago we stayed here for a few days, and as we enjoyed it so much we always intended on going back. Our two nights there recently were not a disappointment. The restaurant was excellent, as were the wines and breakfast. The staff/owners were exceptionally friendly. We hope to go back again before too long.

A wide selection of excellent food and friendly personnel. When you sit in the garden you can watch the horses and cattle grazing in the nearby fields. A really relaxing atmosphere.

What a treat after a whole morning of biking and birdwatching! A choice of light and sasonal dishes as well as traditional hearty food - we had great pasta with peppers and local sausages, salad with polenta roles, tasty local beef with bread dumplings. Children menus available.
Illmitzer was not crowded during the lunchtime. The waiter spoke excellent English and was very accommodating! Very affordable prices - great value for money.

We went for dinner and we were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The vegetables looked and tasted as if they came out of a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, same with the sauces, probably made from a cheap powder base. Prices, however, were the same as in other much nicer places in Illmitz which offered better quality food.

Attended a congress in Vienna and our first afternoon was dedicated to Neudsiedeler See. We had a nice cruise on the lake (in two boats) and were then taken by horse carriages through the National Park to a Hungarian type dinner at Pusztscheune in Ilmnitz. Our group size was huge, so my review does not give a private visitor actually any information.
I was very impressed by the effectivity of the staff in serving such a bunch of people! Drinks and the three-course-meal were served without having any feeling of having to wait for the food. The musicians entertaining the dinner guests with Hungarian music were great!

I cannot recommend this restaurant. The food was really bad. They have just pork and fries. We ordered soup, which I doubt was real broth, then salad, which was really complicated to eat because it was served in really unpractical bowl, the pieces were too big and all the vegetable was swimming in some hardly definable sauce. Pork was chewy and without taste. In general there was nothing interesting on the menu. On top of that service was really poor and very impolite. The restaurant has its own winery. We wanted to try it, however, it was even impossible to order a glass, since there was no waiter. Do not go there, it was waste of.money.
