We have just spent five days here in early September on a self-planned birding and general "outdoor" trip. We had a great time, and will return, but will choose another season next time. The place has a very good infrastructure for access, particularly for cyclists, who dominate the tracks. But although it is called a National Park. farming interests dominate, at least in summer and autumn. This is wine growing country, and the farmers use very noisy devices to keep the birds off the vines - gas guns that explode every few minutes, loud shrieks that are supposed, presumably, to sound like predators but are actually like nothing on earth, and worst of all things that definitely sound like devices dropped from passing aeroplanes that are about to blow your head off. It was ironic (to put it at its kindest) to stand on a very expensively-provided wildlife-viewing platform and listen to this racket going on all around. Choose a (presumably) quieter time to go if you want the stillness of the natural world. Or go somewhere else, especially in the autumn, where the "National Park" isn't run by wine growers.

Approximately 15 km from Eisenstadt the Familypark is located in the village of St. Margarethen. What started almost 50 years ago as small fairytale forest is today Austria’s biggest leisure park. With near to 500.000 guests per season and an area of approx. 20 soccer fields (145.000 m²) the park offer entertainment and adventure for the whole family. In 4 themed worlds the park offers everything that is expected from a leisure park: From carussells to roller coasters, climbing and experience areas to a petting zoo and an enchanted fairytale forest. Every year there is, of course, something new to explore. Highlight 2015: Leonardos Flying Machine The new big attraction for 2015! Follow in the footsteps of the famous inventor and visionary, Leonardo Da Vinci. Take a flight aboard his flying machine and feel as free as a bird, circling in the sky. The moving wings allow you to make your flight an individual experience. You decide whether you want a laid-back flight or wish to embark on an exciting flying adventure. This is an extraordinary attraction, which is completely unique in Austria! All attractions of Familypark are located in an idyllic park area that can be easily discovered by strollers or wheelchairs. 11 different restauration area take offer you a vast variety of culinary delights. The Familypark Seasons starts end of March/beginning of April and lasts until 26th of October. But don’t miss the new highlight of Halloween in Familypark, which takes place around Halloween. Experience the park from its scary perspective. All rides will be open by night and a lot of specials are offered.
Brutal qeue at the cash on the sun, be careful. Good attractions for the whole family, Try the rollercoster, there is a beauty view to the Neusidler see/Fertő tó.

If you are out this way or are looking to go on a day trip then this is a great place to check out.
You will need a car to get there but the way is beautiful and interesting so there will be no dull moments on the trip there.
It took us about two hours to do a round of the whole zoo and we found it to tidy, well looked after and well laid out. I loved the way the place was left 'as it was' with trees hanging over pathways and the vegetation left to grow wild.
The animals seemed happy and well looked after. There was a great variety of animals and of course not all of them were in cages. Lots of babies too! Make sure you buy some of the food when you pay the low entrance fee. Oh actually make sure you buy two bags of food because by the time we got to the deer we didn't have anything left.
Really natural and very nice. Would definitely recommend this as a place to visit and there are so many places in the surrounding area that you can do afterwards. Like checking out the local nature reserves or going to a local therme (thermal baths).
Why did I knock a star off and only give this great place only four stars?
Feeding the animals is a great experience and it was nice to get up close to the animals. However I can't believe it is healthy or hygienic for hundreds of humans to go from animal to animal letting them lick their hands. Also not good for us humans as there were no facilities to wash your hands in between (only the toilets at the beginning of the park which were lovely and clean) so unless you have some wet wipes on hand this is pretty disgusting.
Also even if you have wet wipes or any other way of cleaning your hands (I had anti bac gel) is it safe for the next animal to lick your hands? Obviously there doesn't seem to be a problem with this otherwise they wouldn't encourage people to feed the animals but it was something that struck me as odd and left me a little worried.
Another reason for the lack of a five star review is the lack of staff in the zoo itself. There were personal at the lovely cafe and of course at the entrance but I didn't see anyone else working there. Not a huge problem but I noticed visitors feeding the animals their 'human food' which I know is a bad thing and I also saw a visitor jump inside an animal pen to collect peacock feathers.
Despite these observations I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. Really well done and obviously run with love.

Kracher, in the tiny settlement of Illmitz, has the family winery Kracher on the main street. A nondescript building and large gate hides a tasteful interior, elegant tasting room with splendid veranda, where one can taste the wines of this eminent producer. The current owner, Gerhard Kracher is a third-generation winemaker, and the winery was brought to fame by his fater, Alois. Their wines are impeccable, and the majority of production is of sweet wines. Very professionally run, worth a stop for a tasting and for taking away some bottles.

This is an amazing facility, owned and run by 3 generations of the family (all getting their hands dirty or not so dirty - 83 year old grandfather driving the forklift, while son is doing tastings and grandson is doing the tour!) - the wines are good but not yet great, in my opinion, though the facility and tour are quite an experience, and standout in the memory of a person who has done countless tours around the world!
