We were staying in Austria but close to the border so we travelled down to Sopron from Jois and had a look around this wonderful town. The fire tower is the most dominate building in the centre mainly because of it's purpose. It was used in the past as a look out for fires starting up. You can visit go up to the top for a wonderful view. Highly recommended

The formerly spectacular palace has seen far better times having suffered great indignations since the losses of the Habsburg empire and successive occupations led to disrepair. Gradually being returned to glory, we enjoyed our guided tour of that part now open but we understand it has now closed for 2 years of further renovation which hopefully will make it spectacular and bring many tourists to this quiet corner of the country

We have just spent five days here in early September on a self-planned birding and general "outdoor" trip. We had a great time, and will return, but will choose another season next time. The place has a very good infrastructure for access, particularly for cyclists, who dominate the tracks. But although it is called a National Park. farming interests dominate, at least in summer and autumn. This is wine growing country, and the farmers use very noisy devices to keep the birds off the vines - gas guns that explode every few minutes, loud shrieks that are supposed, presumably, to sound like predators but are actually like nothing on earth, and worst of all things that definitely sound like devices dropped from passing aeroplanes that are about to blow your head off. It was ironic (to put it at its kindest) to stand on a very expensively-provided wildlife-viewing platform and listen to this racket going on all around. Choose a (presumably) quieter time to go if you want the stillness of the natural world. Or go somewhere else, especially in the autumn, where the "National Park" isn't run by wine growers.

Only one hour by car from Vienna so easy to visit for a few hours, even when its cold (0) outside there is a good selection of slides and pools to visit. Can be a bit busy but you only queue a few minutes for the main slides. Not the cheapest (around 25 Euro for an adult) but kids love it and we will definately come again.

Parndorf has good discounts and many interesting shops, but every time I visited it, it was full of people, and you need to wait in a queue to enter the shop...Guess, for example is always messed up, too many people grabbing and throwing things around....All together, it is recommended to visit Parndorf on weekdays.

This fantastic Palace is well worth a visit for those who would like to see the interiors or just enjoy a walk in the Gardens.
The only option to view the interiors is with a guide. We arranged a private viewing and can't recommend this enough. Our guide was fantastic and she explained all aspects plus gave fun details. Unlike usual rehearsed tours - this was interactive, light, really interesting and the 90 min flew by. Attila from their official website helped organize everything.
The Palace is being renovated so only 4 rooms were open. Even still - having the current Duke of the Esterhazy Family living in the palace gives it a more homely feel instead of the usual empty museum. Musical Concerts are also regularly held in the palace.
The vast original Gardens have sadly been lost but they have huge topiary hedges and beautiful avenues to wander down.
A minimum of 3 hours is needed to fully enjoy this fabulous palace that is being lovingly brought back to its original splendour!! For those needing some sustenance there are 2 restaurants directly opposite the palace with lovely views of the entrance.

Private open air museum showing traditional Burgenland village. Buldings are concetrated in a small (=nice) area, interiors are richly equipped. Short distance from Vienna or Bratislava, extra recommended when staying longer by eastern part of Neusiedler See.
