Fine dining in the heart of the winlelands with spectacular views over False bay . Lunch Monday to sunday 12 to 2 pm . Dinner monday to saturday 7 pm to 9 pm
We had a fantastic birthday celebration dinner at Waterkloof last night. Our table was in the big glass window looking out over False Bay. We chose the 3 course option and also ordered the wines that were recommended with each. The food could have been works of art - beautiful, tasty, delectable - portions could have been a bit larger though but this is a fine dining restaurant so smaller portions are what one can expect. I can highly recommend starter scallops, the quail as the main dish, and any of the Deserts. The wine produced by this farm is of the highest quality. It is an expensive restaurant but I felt it was worth every cent.

One word... "Traditional" Not even an hour out of Cape Town, The Orchard Farm Stall is the first farm stall on the left on the corner of Oudebrug Road and the N2 in Grabouw. Facing out over the shaded parking lot, its pathways strewn with climbing roses, is the farm stall, clean country-style restrooms, a coffee shop/restaurant, a bike & car wash and a charming gift shop. The Orchard's traditional bakery is fantastic! On offer here are a variety of chunky farm breads, real croissants, mouthwatering pies, scones, muffins, old-fashioned apple tart and their famous chocolate mousse & baked lemon cheese cakes. Everyone's taste is catered for here! The shelves are lined with local honey, homemade jams and preserves including orange marmalade, passion fruit jam, pear and ginger preserve, pineapple jam, apricot jam, strawberry jam and quince jelly. There are local and imported teas on sale, any number of local arts, crafts and admirable gifts. There is an array of the usual - chips, sweets, cold drinks - that we've come to expect from farm stalls. There is a lovely indoor and outdoor playground, a jumping castle and a kiddies train for the little ones. The grassy surrounds of the farm stall make a perfect spot to sit and picnic if you're so inclined. The perfect stop for you and your family. Fresh drinking water and a large sprawling green lawn is available for pets too!
On my travels to Hermanus, I decided one morning to actually stop off at the Orchard for a quick breakfast, which turned into a lingering experience enjoying the food and tranquility. Their pies are the best. I therefore now make a point of it to stop there to take home a selection when I pass on my travels.

Zest Restaurant is a Mediterranean Bistro located in the small coastal town of Gordon's Bay. Zest serves contemporary Mediterranean cuisine with a twist. It is located on the beach front, which offers spectacular views of False Bay. It is a quaint family owned Restaurant that boasts with two qualified Head Chefs. It offers the best dining experience in the Bay, which will even satisfy the hardened critics. Their stylish menu features a wide variety, including fresh seafood, poultry, beef, pork, in season vegetables from local Gardens and farms, as well as homemade soups, breads and decadent desserts, always presented tastefully. Come to Zest and enlighten your senses!
Do not be put off by the rather drab and casual appearance, this place does seriously good food. Book in advance if you can.
We never return to the same restaurant on two consecutive nights....but we did here!
We enjoyed risotto, crab cake, baby calamari and mussels as starters. All were incredibly tasty and well presented.
As for mains: Perfectly cooked line fish, Hake and mussel combo, a burger and a vegetarian pasta dish all really impressed us.
The service was just as we like it, attentive but not in your face.
A great wine list too and all very reasonably priced. The two of us even managed two bottles of chenin blanc on the first night.
Visit and enjoy!!

The Camphors at Vergelegen signature restaurant takes its name from the ancient giant camphor trees, planted in 1700, situated in front of the historic Homestead. The restaurant overlooks expansive lawns and beautiful trees complementing the overall dining experience and creating an ambiance never to be forgotten. After only a year of operation, Camphors was awarded place in the Top Ten restaurants in South Africa, in The Eat Out DStv Restaurant Awards 2014, as well as being the Regional Winner - Wine Tourism Restaurant - in the 2014 Great Wine Capitals. Vergelegen produces classical wine varietals and the ever changing menu reflects a modern take on classical international and local food dishes, specifically designed to complement Vergelegen's award-winning wines. The Sommelier and his restaurant team guide diners through the menu and recommended wine selections to ensure a relaxed and memorable food and wine experience. Regrettably, Camphors is not child-friendly.
Came back to Camphors after a couple of month to check whether our extraordinary experience in november 17 was just a lucky punch. It wasn’t. Also the new menu with the new wine pairings offers really remarkable combinations:
Starting with a beautiful carrot, ricotta finds smoked dish accompanied with a delicate and well balances chardonnay reserve 2016.
Followed by a creamy snook which made the otherwise pretty acid 2016 schaapenberg reserve sauvignon blank just smooth and beautiful.
The main fish course was hake - a bit too rich for me - but again an nice match with the semillion res. 2016
An awesome pair is the springbok tatar with the 2014 shiraz - just sensational.
The maincourse i would call a camphors classic: five types of lamb with their two top Bordeaux style top reds - the 2012 GVB and the Cabernet Sauvignon of the same vintage. Not being a Bordeaux lover, the GVB is just a remarkable wine.
The menu ended with a nice pre dessert an a pineapple-cashew dish and a nice 2013 straw wine.
So overall, to me, their concept and the way the live up to it is just unmatched: the best wine-food pairings in za presented by really attentive and competent staff.

Relax on The Pool Room Terrace, relishing country inspired cuisine, with ingredients sourced from the farm where possible. Feast on free range grass-fed beef, acorn-fed pork, charcuterie, naturally grown vegetables and freshly baked artisanal breads from the wood-burning oven. Wagyu, the famous cattle breed from Japan, where it is better known as Kobe beef, will be on offer from time-to-time depending on availability. Wagyu is a delicacy famous for its incredible marbling and flavour.
We were driving from Kleinmond to Franschhoek and wanted to stop for lunch en route. We were recommended The Pool Room. It is set in a very pretty location and the restaurant is beautifully designed. We ate by the pool (you can also eat inside)....MoreGood Day Owen, Thank you for your review, we are so pleased you found us on the way to Franschoek and that you enjoyed your lunch and experience. We hope to see you again soon.

Arrived on a Monday for lunch but found the facility closed. We considered this a problem as the restaurant is quite a way off the N2 and there is no notification to advise guests of this fact. However, we persisted and arrived the next day to find it operating. Seating is arranged inside, on the veranda and in the front garden. There is a limited menu for both breakfast and lunch but suitable. Quality was home made, fresh and wholesome. Service was good as there was limited clientele.

On a road trip to Hermanus, we stopped over at the lovely coffee shop perched near the Hottentot Mountains for a mid-morning breakfast . Their pies are all they say they are, crisp pastry and meaty, tasty fillings. I chose the pancakes with berry compote and fresh cream as a sweet and it was mouth-watering, the best I've had anywhere!

Established in the 60's, this is the Western Cape's original farm stall. Amenities include an airy cafe, a deli and bakery as well as various other stores on site.
Its been a year since I was travelling and stopped off at the Peregrine, but its always had a good array of quick and fresh snacks and tasty foods. The coffee is excellent! The apples are a treat to take a pack on your way out, they are such good value.

It's somewhat of a 'tourist destination' but the food and vibe is pretty good given where it is. Pork ribs were quite nice, beef brisket was ok....seemed like pork is the way to go here. Side dishes (beans and corn-salad) were nice. For outside of N.America it's pretty good BBQ and nice relaxed setting, craft beers, wines/drinks, worth a stop if you're in the area.

Great pizza, burger and dessert with great views over False Bay. Sublime wines; do the tasting while you eat.
