Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, contains one of the largest surviving medieval quarters in Europe. Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Old Town contains almost two thousand medieval, gothic, renaissance, and baroque buildings, all centered on the neo-classical cathedral and town hall. Other popular attractions include the KGB Museum, located in a former Soviet prison, and the 13th century Higher Castle, which affords a glorious view of the city center.

It's fascinating. It's fun. It's sure to be surprising. Basically that's all you need to know about our fabulous museum.
A glorious mixture of new and old optical illusions, well displayed and with a high proportion of interactive elements. Children should love it and parents will find themselves jostling to have a go themselves. The only downside is that I imagine the museum will be very busy and thus crowded in the high season.

I managed to spend a few minutes in here as my Vilnius bus tour stoped here. (Note only one of the tours stops long enough to go in). Otherwise it's a bit out of the way ... Beautiful inside with statues and paintings everywhere.

The history is of course horrific - 100,000 murdered here, mostly jews, by the nazis. We visited on a Sunday in August and unfortunately the small museum was closed. Oddly our small group were the only visitors, which gave us the feeling this was an under-visited location. If you're in Vilnius, be sure to book a day trip to Trakai that includes a stop here.

Champagne Boutique in Old town, more than 100 Champagnes,Champagne testing and snacks.
Vilnius old town has a low rise skyline, lots of significant churches, a small section of the original fortress intact ( closed until summer for repairs to foundation slippage) a nicely rebuilt royal palace ( now a museum) plus all the usual grand town halls etc
What makes Vilnuis Old city better than Riga is that it seems to be more a "working" town with more residential and businesses directed to other pursuitsby hand blatant tourism.
On the other hand, Talliin was the best old city amongst the Baltic States...I'm sure the locals will vigoursly debates these views

This large Church of Barroco style closed to the river and the Uzupis borough is one of the most impressive (and different) Churches in Vilnius and there are a lot to choose from! Certainly a recommended visit on your way to the Uzupis

Rather small, but interesting. Some typical stuff about the history of money and of the Bank of Lithuania, but what I liked the most was the huge collection of money from some quite exotic places and also another collection of old money used on the...MoreDear Guest, we are really grateful for Your review and we hope its not the last time you visited our museum. These beautiful Gardens are right near the heart of the city and frequented by locals much more than tourists. Free entrance, good for people watching and enjoying the formal and informal settings. The big Fountain has intermittent synchronized (?) music playing and there is a view of the Hill of Three Crosses.

Green and spacious, with a number of running/hiking trails. A bit too much concrete winds through but overall I had a great 5 mile run here. The forest provides nice shade in warm weather.

The Church is a nice example of the Baroque art. The best part is a visit to a separately standing Campanile (Bell tower). You are in the middle of the Old town and get the best views over. Gediminas' Castle has a different perspective, i prefer the one from st.Johns' church Campanile. For half a price compared to Gediminas' tower you get a much better and closer look to all beautiful Old town. Highly recommended!

This beautiful and large three-naved Catholic church is one of the best early Baroque buildings in Lithuania. It belongs to the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites. Expensive, luxurious and elegant construction materials were used in its facade designed by royal Italian architects. The fine Rococo and Baroque interior (harmoniously combined) with lots of golden and pink colors, has been wonderfully preserved. The frescoes representing the life and activities of St Theresa are very interesting. The impressive high altar is among the most amazing in the country. By the way, the church architecture was designed according to the Il Gesu, S. Maria della Scala and S. Maria della Vittoria churches located in Rome. This church has never been closed down. It's closely linked with the chapel of the Gates of Dawn. Overall, beautiful ornate church, great location, easy to spot, near other sights and well kept. There are so many details to explore. Quiet atmosphere, but during mass is really crowded. Well worth to visit.
