We visited this shrine from Tirupati, after a lot of recommendation from friends and family. Trust me for me travelling 3hrs by car to Vellore to Sirpuram Golden Temple was just another experience.
Lavish Temple built on outskirts of Vellore this place definitely looks magnificent. With amazing structure, architecture this definitely looks very heavenly. perfect well maintained Garden, star shaped walk through, Golden Temple, small pond will keep you amused.
Flipside the reason I was not too happy with was, I felt this place has become too commercial. Same God Darshan with different priority listing - Free, Rs. 100, Rs. 250, and so on goes till Rs. 7500... found wierd. Even inside there are stores and and one more darshan you need to shell put more.
Truly, All that glitters is not Gold !!! One time visit.

Visited this Fort which is surrounded by the city. It is a well preserved fortress and one is actually transported to the days of the Vellore Mutiny when you stand within the fort. The pictures really don't do much justice to the magnificence of this wonderful monument to India's turbulent history. You be the judge.
There is always a throng of tourists, who unfortunately take great pains to either smear the walls with some sort of rubbish or litter the place despite strategically placed waste bins.
My humble request to those who visit such places as tourists - Treat these places like your home, you wouldn't want someone to litter in your home, would you?

The temple is located next to arcot enroute Bangalore highway well before Vellore... you must take the service lane on the right side near alankar restaurant otherwise you will need to take a U turn after a km additional ride.. temple has two parking one at the bottom and another at hilltop. The road to hill top is narrow with two hairpin bends suitable for cars. The temple is clean and tidy well maintained and deity is beautiful and captivating.. they say the temple was in existence since 14th century but was renovated and maintained only from 19th century.

While the six "Arupadai Veedu" the abode of Lord Muruga is well know, Vallimalai is not known as much. This is the place where Valli the consort of Lord Muruga, Valli was born. 400 steps take you to the top of the hill where there is a cave temple that is maintained by ASI. You can meditate on a day when it is not crowded. The beautiful greenery from the top of the temple is a treat for the eyes. Please plan visits when the sun is not hot as the steps are not very easy to climb for the elderly and the young. Though water tanks are available enroute, it would be better to carry them along. A visit to the ashram at the top of the hill is also suggested, where you can see many Sadhus. The highlight of the temple is the spic and span temple tank at the foothills. Plenty of car parking and is not charged. I drove down from Chennai and purposely took a long route thru Thirutanni-Sholingur to enjoy the scenic hillocks along the Chitoor road, while the easiest route from Chennai would be the NH road.

Marbandheeshwarar is the presiding deity. Maragadavalli is his consort. The linga is Swayam-bhoo and is pretty tall. The temple outer prakaaram is big and you can spend a few minutes, savouring the peace. The outer prakaram has the Simha Kulam, mandapam and the Sundial.
The inner prakaram has a number of auxiliary shrines : Virinchi Durgai, Subramanya, Ganesha, Navagraham and so on, in addition to the main deities.
Walk around the village savouring simple village life. There are a number of other small temples in the vicinity.
You could visit this temple along with the Sripuram Golden temple, Ratnagiri Subramanyar temple and the Pallikonda Ranganathar temple.

To my knowledge this is the only place where we can see 9 babas in one circle. The place is next to National highway (Bangalore to Chennai) near Pallikonda Tollgate. It is neatly maintained and peaceful place for meditate and pray. We have a good hotel just next to the temple complex. From Vellore, it is just 15 Kms. So we can even come by auto rickshaws or taxi to this place. When you are traveling from Bangalore to Chennai by Car, this is one of the must visit.
