The beach is beautiful and very clean. I usually walk, but it is possible to go out on the little train which owes its existence to the tuna fishery of bygone days. Other reviewers have referred to the "anchor cemetery". This also is a relic of the times when tuna were caught and landed here and there is a museum within the buildings behind the beach which explains the network of nets, anchored to the sea floor, into which the fish were herded. It is well worth a visit. I find the restaurants less worthy of praise. You are a captive clientele. Quality is mediocre at best and prices are high.

This is a lovely family beach, accessed by Ferry from either Tavira town or Quatrain Aquas.
In the height of the season it is, understandably very busy. So early arrival is advised.
Great range of restaurants and bars for most tastes, but mainly fish.
Be sure not to miss Marinho Bolinas who sells fresh donuts on the beach. A real character and much loved by the locals and those visitors who know him!

You would never guess this place existed but it is worth half an hour of your life. Few of us are experts on 17th century ecclesiastical Portuguese architecture but you don't need to be. The blue and white 'ajulejos' tile work is work seeing, it's very fine indeed and the best in the city.

On the skyline of the pretty Moorish town of Tavira stands a strange construction. A cylindrical form on spindly legs with what appears to be a single eye that slowly turns to observe the town, it's presence like that of an alien spaceship from War of the Worlds. The cylinder however contains a delightful camera obscura, and in the cool darkened space it's revolving lens projects telescopic images of the town below onto a large concave screen. The commentator tells you that from ground level you cannot be seen as you observe the comings and goings of the street below. What fun then, when walking through the town, you become aware of the eye turning to face you and you face it, smile and wave at the surprised tourists inside. Please note that the last show is performed 30 minutes before the closing time so we kindly recommend to arrive before 4:30 pm Monday to Friday or 12:30 pm Saturday and Sunday. Thank you.
Loved our visit to this attraction... The guide was very informative and made the whole experience really interesting. The overview of Tavira is really useful. Well worth the 4 euro entrance fee.

In the middle of town, not too far from the beautiful old bridge... there is a square. You can easily imagine the locals venturing here for public events. It's a beautiful open area with water features.
There are stores nearby that are delightful to wander in and out of. Tavira isn't a big town...but there is something that is incredibly beautiful and appealing about it.

Xiri beach bar looks unassuming tucked at the end of the path at the back of the beach but apart from the friendly helpful staff it offers a 5 star service catering for all our needs. From hiring sun beds and cabanas/parasols, delicious coffee to start the day, drinks whenever you want and cocktails at sunset, you can even book a massage.
