What to do and see in Pachuca, Mexico: The Best Places and Tips

November 18, 2017 Malia Yoakum

Pachuca is the getaway for those looking for dreamy landscapes, rich culture, nature and comfort. Of note are the Pulque Haciendas, 19th century grand haciendas dedicated to the production of pulque, a traditional drink considered sacred by the Aztecs. It's made from the fermented sap of maguey plants.

Beutifull small Town. Has a stong British mining heritage and their specialty is "Pastes" like pastries filled with an Array of choices. From salt to sweet. We took an evening stroll here and Town is beautifully lit. STrolled in and out from some small shops and just took it easy. absolutely Worth a trip also during the day.

H-GO Adventures

My first adventure in Via Ferrata. It's wonderful and costs only 800 MXN pesos per person. It takes nearly 4 hours to complete the entire climb and to return. Though they have other small adventure activities, I recommend this. The mountain that you climb is called Peña de la Tanda. You can also reach this mountain via normal route by trekking but you must contact localites who can take you.
Also, you have another peak taller than the above called Peña de la Monjas and there localites who will take you to the peak with a trekking but cost you very very less (250 MXN). This is almost 6 hours activity.
Other adventure activity which is located at the base of the mountain might be for family members who don't want to climb the mountain.
Also they have trekking in the river for 1 full day or half a day. Basically if you know the route you can do the trek by yourself. We are not happy with the services given by them during the trekking or entire trek itself.
Overall I recommend this H-GO adventures only via Ferrata.

The Acosta Mine starts working in 1727 and keeps its productivity until 1985. Nowadays it has became in an important Museum where you can know about its History and relevant acpects about mining. The Site guards historic architectural remains, testimony of its Historical stages: Colony, english immigration and investment in the region, starting with the Age of Steam and the advent of electricity with the Northamerican investors. If you have decided to go to Mineral del Monte, the English Graveyard is a must.
Please make an effort to hire a local guide, preferably look for Sir Chencho's daughter, her stories and knowledge of the place are outstanding, she is the current graveyard keeper.
The mix between cultures, religions, cults, groups and homogeneity between heterogeneity is amazing, but you will not get this without the dedicated explanation.
The place is small, but it will take you a good hour to go through.
The access requires a small 200 meter walk on cobblestones.
Enjoy!
