I mostly go there for breakfast. The Coffee is the best around. I always bring a couple of bags home with me. The huevos seperados is an excellent egg dish with rojo and verde sauces.
I recommend getting there early on the weekends. It gets very crowded .

Been there during a job meeting, I have tasted lots of things from the menu, which is tipically veracruzan. Everything was tasto and well prepared, staff people are kind and the setting is also very nice.

The food is very good, the atmosphere is very noisy, cheerful, there is a band playing cuban music, prices are not expensive, but the best is the food, it is delicious!!
Cons: There is not air conditioning, just fans, service is slow, restrooms are not clean

The combination of quality and experience offered at El Gaucho Restaurant and a unique view of the Bay of Veracruz combine to create Mardel. The restaurant offers seafood specialties, argentinean grill and internationally influenced dishes with local and traditional roots.
I was walking along the coast side in Veracruz, looking for someplace to have a hearthy breakfast, put the "palapas" around the Aquarium are very awful, then i found Mardel... it barley goes noticed because it has a very little sign, but as you are entering you can feel that you are in a different place; the decoration is great, the service is attentive, and the food is not out of this world but great for the city's standards, and if you add the seaview, the good quality and the overall cleaness you have a great place to have a good breakfast and to relax while enjoying it, totally recommended!

This is the best place In Veracruz port out of sea or traditional food restaurants.
The service is exceptional.
The grilled and carpaccio octopus are superb, as well as the bife the chorizo and the langoustines ( big shrimps)
The desserts are also amazing as the banana brûlée and the cajeta crepes.
A must if you are tired of the port traditional food.

One of the old, classic Veracruz cafes. Just off the zocalo, next to Gran Hotel Diligencias. High ceilings, fans, patrons with guyaberas and straw fedoras. menus offered in english and spanish - get the spanish one - the english one is a little puzzling. they do all the classics well and service is professional and excellent. even their presentation of Sopa de Tortilla is good - bowl of soup with side plate of tiny tortilla strips, chunks of queso fresco, chunks of avocado and slices of guajillo Chile - rather than the usual bowl with tortilla strips already in and getting soggy. Ate there mid afternoon and an oasis of quiet and cool in the center of Veracruz.
I ate here for breakfast for an entire week (except one day it wasn't open which I was devastated about) as was staying at the neighbouring Gran Hotel Diligencias. Once you eat breakfast here you won't want to go anywhere else. Everything was delicious, fresh and hot. I loved the huevos rancheros the most. Definitely order the coffee to see it served the Veracruz way!

Wow! We happened upon this gem by accident, but what a find. The food is absolutely exquisite and the decor is completely unique. Far above the very average restaurant scene in this port city. Slightly more expensive, but worth it!
My only suggestion would be to expand/diversify the wine list.
