Surprisingly, not many French know that this island even exists outside of Lorient. This island is a gorgeous getaway with a beautiful coastline, white sands and blue waters, blackberries growing wild all over the island, idyllic homes, brilliant for biking and long walks, beautiful landscape and sweet, little restaurants to feed your share of wine and baguettes. Not to be missed if you're in this part of France!

Although normally a French top division football stadium, we visited for the night-time spectacle and light show during the August Interceltique Festival. We were offered some great seats - though should have wrapped up warmer for a late evening show in August. There was great visibility and comfortable Seating and easy access - despite having limited mobility. Long queues at the ladies toilet area suggest that the facilities were limited.

Musee de la Compagnie des Indes

Port Louis is worth a visit if you are visiting Brittany. There is plenty of free parking between the town and the sandy beach which is accessed through the old city wall. There are several restaurants and cafes in the town, which is within easy walking distance of the beach and The Museum.
There is a small childrens' play area and a large grassed area in the same location.
The Museum is situated within the Citadel, and is several museums in one. There is a monument outside of the Citadel to the murder by the Nazis of 69 patriots in 1944.
One part of the museum is dedicated to The East India Compnay, another to the defence of Port Louis throughout the centuries. The part dedicated to lifeboatmen is very interesting, with some superb models and pictures.
The entry fee in summer 2013 was 7 Euros per senior. Very good value.

Visited the museum and the submarine. Very interesting to hear the history and experience what life in a sub must have been like. Plenty info in English. However didn't do the guided visit to the base as time limited. The museum gives a very good idea anyway.

I was impressed by the way they did this place. It is situated in the old sub-marine base. One of the things which impressed me a lot are the photo collages with hundreds of photos of famous sailors...Thank you for your comments.

To see the level of construction and the protection for the u boats .
Very methodical and logical, but obsolete at the end of the day.
Specific to type 7 boats Aan expansion was underway for type 22.
Post war this gigantic concrete structure was used by the French souse marine.
Well worth a visit , enjoy a submarine experience.
Catering on site, well it's France after all.
Enjoy

English headsets available.
The tour consists of several floors the view the steel diving training tank, I am sure this is of interest to some, but there is very little in the way of other exhibits.
Having done the excellent tour of K3 we thought it would continue the U-Boat theme, alas not. Very few mentions of the war, U-Boats.
You have to book on the day and there may be delays.
