We unintentionally took the steep way up to the Fortica (from the river side) and had not appreciated that there was no definite path, just red and white circles/stripes to mark the correct, rather tortuous, route.
It was more of a climb over rocks, scree, holding onto pine trees to assist us.
It took us around an hour with our 50+ legs!
The view at the top was incredible, so worth the climb.
We felt sorry for the girl who works there having to make this journey every day.
The way we descended was more of a path, and again clearly marked, an easier option!
Take plenty of water with you, and wear walking boots, or trainers with good grip soles.
Don't forget a camera.

Tour Operator Transfers and Transportation Travel & Leisure Scuba Diving lessons and trips Guided scuba diving and snorkeling tours Boat trips to the Islands Active holiday tours (rafting, climbing, canyoning, hiking, stand-up paddle boards, segway, bike, scooter, sailboat, etc)
We were a family of four with teenagers and we all thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Our boatman was Vladimir, who we found out later was the owner of the tour company. We were the only ones on the speedboat so it was really like a private charter. We enjoyed snorkeling in the two secluded coves that Vladimir brought us to. He also gave us lots of interesting information throughout our trip. The water was very clear and teaming with lots of marine life. We also stopped off at Milna on the island of Brac for an hour so we had refreshments and a look around. Great trip would highly recommend it.

Private and small group tours to most beautiful spots in Croatia, including National parks Plitvice lakes and Krka Waterfalls, and cities of Dubrovnik and Zadar. Departing from towns of Omis, Makarska and Split.
We booked with Sunspot Tours as we wanted a private excursion and we didn't like the sound of a guided tour with our hotel party.
And wow, I am so glad we did.
Anamaria provided an excellent, easy service from start to finish. Not only was she helpful, knowledgeable and accomodating, but she also made an effort to build a personable relationship with us and she has a real sense of humour!
Sunspot Tours went the extra mile for us.
Initially, we planned on doing Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes on separate days but the weather wasn't great so they advised that we rescheduled.
So they organised something that they had never done before - 2 national parks in 1 day!
We got engaged on our holiday to Croatia and we were gifted with lovely chocolates from Anamaria and the team.
We were collected from our hotel doorstep at 7am and dropped off to our driver for the day just outside of town.
His name was Ivan- a very friendly driver who is incredibly knowledgeable and also proud of his country. He was with us for 9 hours in total and was fantastic company the whole way.
Our first stop was 3 miles from Makarska at Plitvice Lakes. This was a trip that we really wanted to do but our holiday company couldn't offer as it was a little while away.
Ivan dropped us off and bought our park tickets, advised us which route to take around the park for the best views and gave us his number to call him when we were ready to leave.
I've never been anywhere so beautiful in all my life. Truly the cherry on top of the best week of my life.
Ivan then took us to Krka National Park which was smaller but definitely worth the visit. We enjoyed learning about the old water mill and also spotted some lovely wildlife including frogs, lizards and birds!
Ivan took us back to the hotel and we were back spot on time for dinner.
We had a fantastic day- walked 10km in total. We were very tired but had the best day ever.
Thank you to Anamaria, Ivan and the whole Sunspot team for providing an excellent experience.
I would recommend them to anyone!

Ivan and Ivica both speak English very well and put a lot of emphasis on diver safety. Rather than take the level on your certification card for granted, they place more value in the number of dives you've made and the time since the last one, which I think is a good approach. The rental equipment was generally in good shape, except for some worn out fins with broken foot pockets. You don't have to lug tanks around or even put the sets together; they were already prepared upfront in the boat. The boat ride can be about 45 minutes to the Islands. The boat is open so take care to avoid sunburn.
The dives are very relaxed but rather short and shallow: about 30 to 40 minutes bottom time, average depth around 7 to 12 meters. If you have experience (and your own dive computer), you can sometimes go a bit deeper, for example at the wrecks. The upshot is that you surface with half your tank remaining and a feeling of wasted opportunity. On the other hand, the crystal-clear waters will chill you down after a while in the 5 mm suits, so the dive plans are probably a reasonable tradeoff between adventure and comfort. There are some nice wrecks and caves in the area; interesting marine life is harder to spot.
All in all, an OK diving experience for all skill levels, with a friendly and trustworthy team!

What a wonderful experience. This was our most memorable experience in the Split area. We had the caves all to our selves and the man who runs them was full of information about the area. Google maps may take you on a very strange way to get there though!

Omis (pronounced Omish) harbor is flanked by natural stone walls. This used to be the center of pirate activity, and there are remnants of watchtowers built high on the rocks where townspeople would watch for incoming pirates. A short walk from the dock (we arrived by boat) is the old town, with its alleys, shops, and restaurants. Immediately upon arrival, our group walked through the old town to the river, where we got a slow motor boat through the river gorges. Lovely scenery, very quiet, and clear water. Motored upstream for about 45 minutes, then stopped at restaurant Romanove Mlinice (included in our boat ride) for a snack (see separate review). Trip back was about 30 minutes. Enjoyed walking through the small old town and seeing the towering stone walls. Very different than other ports, and very charming.

We organise adventure & culture day trips for families in the Dalmatia region in Croatia. We are based in Podstrana, on the Split Riviera. So we can offer the local prices with the best support. All our tours include express transfers, English speaking guides, local taxes and equipment. Where possible we are trying to create like minded family groups, with similar aged children and teenagers
Had an amazing time in Podstrana with Green World Holidays. We travelled with our 15 year old daughter who, for the first time, experienced a holiday without her big brother or cousins. She was a little apprehensive beforehand but needn't have been. She bonded fantastically from the start with the other teenagers (as did we with the parents) and this absolutely made our holiday. We met some lovely people who we will hope to keep in touch with. Both reps, Maria and Barisa went over and above ensuring all events were well organised, communicated and made fun!!. One of the benefits for us was the door to door service provided by Green World drivers for all activities, including sometimes waiting for us at restaurants after activities. Having organised events independently in the past, this really took the stress away. We have come away with some lovely memories and would not hesitate to recommend this holiday. Well done Green World.

The Cetina river/canyon is pretty amazing. As you start off notice the fortifications guarding the town of Omis and the river mouth. Apparently used to fight off the Turks many years ago. The walls of the canyon are significant. Very picturesque. Along the route our taxi navigator pointed out a few sights, one of which was the zip lining which occurred high above our heads. Apparently one such line was 700 meters in length. Touted as being the longest in the world.
