As we drove from Budapest to Slovenia, decided to take a detour to see the lake & so happy we did as it is beautiful. The colour is lovely, and it is large allowing for a lot of activities slong the shore & by boat.
Numerous accommodation spots along the coast from camping to hotels, various food options from takeaway to dine in, & hire options including boats & bikes.
A popular holiday & cycling option. Lovely! We could easily go back & spend a few days relaxing.

Csodabogyos Cave

When a local recommended this cave to me, I had visions of an American type attraction where you walk into a huge cavern and are kept on a walking path. I was wrong. This is a small cave that you climb through often on your back or belly. It can be strenuous and is not for the claustrophobic, but I enjoyed it immensely. The tight quarters and lack of commercialism made me feel like an explorer, not a tourist.
Do make Reservations and wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy.

It's not so much as what the BUNP directorate has done to improve what was already there (ie the nature), but one have to admit that this is indeed one of the nicest, most varied and exciting place of Hungary. Tihany, the cave lake at Tapolca and Badacsony are certainly worth a visit and offer enough attractions for even a long holiday.

Benedictine Abbey and Museum (Bences Apatsag)

The original abbey was established by King Andras I in the 11th century.

No, this is not "just another church". The size, architecture, and quality statues in this small village in this out-of-the way place are truly awesome. A guided tour to help understand all the nuances and history are in order - I don't believe I can do it justice with mere words. Do make the effort, even if it is a bit out of your way.

Veszprem Zoo

Zoo Veszprem is situated just 15 km from Lake Balaton, and it is the most favoured destination of tourists in the Central Transdanubian Region. The Zoo, which located in a beautiful environment awaits visitors every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. Beside seeing interesting animals, spectacular feeding actions, petting pens and organised events make the offer of the Zoo more colourful. Let’s explore the wonderful world of the animals!

Tickets are still expensive (compering with the prices in Hungary), but the service definitely improved a lot comparing to my previous visit. Above the regular animals (giraffe, lion, monkey, rabbit, bear, zebra, camel) several novelty can be seen (e.g.: Dino park). Animals are living in the zoo, like in their natural environment in the new part of the Zoo. No smell, amazingly organized area.

It is said that the waters have many medicinal properties. I can not comment on this. However, on tasting the water it was obvious that there were various minerals in the water. Many people over the years could not all be wrong about it's healthy attributes.

Tihany Echo

Reviewed By Zsolt C

In Hungary if someone would like to visit the Balaton lake, the most representative place with the greatest view is Tihany. Basically the little town is on a half island inside the Balaton, this ensures its extraordinary perspective. If you climb up even to the benedictine monastery "Tihany Abbey", that is guaranteed you will always remember to the Balaton from that view. It is worth to try also the "Tihany echo", which is generated by the north side of the huge building of abbey

We went to see the center of Veszprém, more precisely the Castle area. It is a really beautiful place with nice old buildings and churches and a fantastic view on the surrounding from the statues of St Stephan and Gizella as well as from the Fire Tower. You can visit the churches and different museums as well depending on the time you have. A must see.

It was a good and awesome activity. I've been here with my family and they enjoyed. I've never tried segway before, and as I thought, it was super. You can control it easily. The leader speaks clearly, and he is very helpful. I hardly recommend this activity.
