Cavan (/ˈkævən/; Irish: an Cabhán, meaning "the hollow") is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with Northern Ireland. The town is on the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north).

we came across this delightful place by accident, the trenches are an educational must for school children. there are some very interesting displays of social history. these small museums should be better advertised as they are the life blood of keeping our knowledge of times gone by alive

We went there for our Wedding Anniversary.It is a great hotel .The Reception staff where excellant very helpfull.The room we got was lovely. The food was nice in the bars but not a great choice though.The bar Staff where very good at serving people . The swimmimg pool was great especially the outdoor pool. There are lovely walks around the estate. I would highly Recommend this hotel to anybody.

Cavan Burren Park is a stunning prehistoric park located in the UNESCO designated Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in West Cavan. The site boasts numerous geological and archaeological features including megalithic tombs and glacial erratics. The site has recently been transformed into an amazing accessible prehistoric park with five looped walking trails including a multi-access trail as well as a brand new interpretative centre, toilet and car park facilities and interpretation across the site. If you were to find yourself in this area with no info , you would walk past it . Great information provided on way around but only kept us interested for half an hour . Routes marked as easy but all start with uphill steep Climb. Not suitable anybody with knee or hip problems. Was disappointed as heard great things about it .

We loved our day out kayaking. The lakes around are really beautiful. Kayaks are in good condition and the prices reasonable. People working there are all very pleasant and our group was given lots of attention and advice on where to go and what to do. Fantastic day out!

This is a relatively recently built Cathedral, having been completed in 1942.
The workmanship throughout is magnificent.
Things to look for:
The Colonnade to the nave which terminates not with the altar, but with a strong crossing which forms a form of rood screen.
Leaded glass windows by Harry Clarke Studios. All of the nave windows are by the studios. They are very detailed as can be seen in the attached photographs.
However, the composition does not have a sufficiently strong main theme. Well worth seeing all the same.
There are also good leaded windows by George Collie.
The spire over the front portico is modelled on the spire of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London of 1722-26 by James Gibbs.

We were given a grab One voucher as a Christmas gift for this place, after having driven from Bray to Cavan some 2 and a half hours paid for a hotel room for the night etc... We called on the morning and explained we were running late, which shouldn't have been an issue as we were not in a group, it would have been just the two of us and they had no other clients booked in that day!! Basically they refused to run the day for us, would not re-book and cashed in the €150 voucher.... Clearly I would advise anyone to find a more hospitable company to deal with... They seem to have missed the point of these vouchers.... They enter into these agreements with the hope of gaining repeat business or attracting new word of mouth clients.... Clearly neither of these will happen from the voucher I was gifted!!

Bit Dated changing arras need a reference vamp. But you get what you pay for at the end of the day I suppose it's better than not having a pool

I attended the conference 'Towns in the Ulster Plantation' which was an extraordinal=rily good conference describing the plantation of:
Armagh
Augher
Ballyshannon- Donegal
Bangor
Belfast
Belturbet- Cavan

Donegal-Donegal
Dungannon

Lifford-Donegal

Londonderry

and Strabane.
To many people the plantation of Ulster by English and Scottish was in what is not the 6 counties of Northern Ireland- Now we know this was not so.
We were told of the formal layout of the plantation towns.
We were told of how the Irish lived in townlands, and not in towns.
Look out for the book of the conference when it comes out.
