Husband had heard it was interesting - and it was! Manned by young men doing their national service - some grumpier than others! (you have to pay extra to take photographs). It was strange viewing their collection as it was exhibited from the victor's point of view - Gallipoli was Churchill's mistake. Nevertheless, the history of shipping in this important seaway was fascinating - and included a guided tour (in English) of a mine-laying craft which still tours schools in the area.

Far more impressive replica of the Trojan horse than the one actually at Troy. This was a prop used in Brad Pitts film on Troy which was donated to the town. Well located on the sea front for photos.

Closed for renovations in Sep 2015. However you can tour the fortifications below the castle, cost 2 L per person. You can still walk around the castle to get an idea of its size and scale and the importance of it strategically.

Site of the heroic siege in in Homer's Iliad, Troy (Truva in Turkish, Ilion in Greek) was excavated in the 1870s by Heinrich Schliemann. He uncovered civilizations dating back 5,000 years, including best-preserved Roman architecture. Explanatory materials at the site are limited, so visitors should bring a good history text or hire a guide.
There's a huge wooden horse at the entrance to Troy, one of the oldest, continually occupied cities in human history. The city of Troy was protected by a high wall built around the city. During the 13th century BC, the Greeks were at war with the city of Troy. This war was called the Trojan War. There is an old saying about Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!! This saying comes from the legend of the Trojan Horse.

Our favourite beach in this region! Out of four tested Beaches within a distance of 50 kilometers this is best by far! The water is clear, water and the swimming Islands a lot of fun. When we went there in the early evening we didn't had to pay for a ticket anymore. We enjoyed the amazing sunset watching dogs trying to catch the waves and children playing in the water. What's great are the free showers and changing rooms directly at the beach which are modern and very clean. There is a stage going all the way down from to the ocean so it's easier to walk. There are no sunloungers or sunshades but this wasn't a problem at all. There is a big parking lot closeby and from Canakkale you can reach this place by taking the ferry and a minibus for cheap money. The beach was easy to find and worth the fifty minutes it took us to reach it. It has a great atmosphere and on the evening it's a lovely place to watch the sun going down in a calm environment.

This memorial is very well presented, although the burial ground is not recognizable. It helps you to have a clearer picture about the human sacrifice in that war...

The museum has the usual very interesting artefacts showing many rounds , water bottles mainly everyday things a soldier would own. Also a wooden cross, letters from soldiers both British and Turkish soldiers and many other objects to see. There is also a film depicting the Battle in Gallipoli we know as The Great War, which saw the deaths of many Soldiers , Sailors and Airman. After you have been given an audio handset you witness different events as you are moved round from one room to another and told what happened. It is well done though I feel it is more of a propaganda film. At the end of it there are a few Turkish hospital tents and were bombed as the handset tells you but.... there is no evidence of this and also the bombing wound NOT have taken place and a Christian nurse , would she have had been there ? Not sure on that one. Please note there are lots of loud bangs etc during the film show . The other museum that was that area had many photos etc shame they weren't on show.
