This 16th-century painted monastery boasts thousands of images against a green background.
Sucevita monastry was the largest we saw and much more 'fort' light on approach....the very high outer walls intimidating and clearly incredibly strong and thick!
The interior area inside the walls was very large and the church stunning. The exterior and interior frescos were amazing in detail, colour and quality. All sides had survived the weather... on other churches the north side was often very faded or gone all together. Again you were not allowed to take photos inside the church but for a very small fee you could take them outside.
We were so lucky as clerymen from Syria were visiting whilst we were there and they entered the church in a procession singing - really made the church come alive and not just be a place tourists visit!
Really recommend making the time to visit this (and the other monastries) in Bucovnia.
It was a delight to walk around in the Sunshine outside and wonderful to see the interior as well.

This is a small, but interesting museum with a nice collection of folk art. The collection comprises various household goods, pieces of furniture, musical instruments, farm tools and means of transportation and offers a glimpse into Romanian rural civilization. Besides the main building, the museum also includes a few peasant houses, including one from the 17th century. At the time of my visit all the houses were closed. They also have a small souvenir shop. The museum could definitely use a renovation, but even so, the collection is valuable and well worth a visit.

This group of monasteries, painted both inside and outside, dating from 1400 to 1700, are unique. Few similar churches exist in the world (i.e. Sumela in Turkey) but the ones in Bucovina are very well preserved and deserve a travel

Founded in 1532, this monastery's frescoes recreate the siege of Constantinople.
We specifically came to the area for the painted monasteries. Since Voronet and Humor were close to Gura Humorului we did those first.
We decided to go to Moldovita and then would decide whether we'd make the trip to Suceavita.
Well.............we got to the town all right......but drove back and forth for more minutes than we liked to find the exact sign to the monastery. We were Barking at each other and ALMOST said forget about it, when we saw THE SIGN. A truck was blocking it.
The frescoes outside are OK. Inside is beautiful, but it all looked the same to us.Walls, tower and Gardens lovely. Only one tour bus was there.
And the turnoff and beyond: spectacular!
We didn't go on to Suceavita. Perhaps it was a mistake......but we were OK with our decision.

It's a nice surprise to see in town a place like this, very elegant, relaxing and cozy! Rich and impressive menu, plenty of hot and cold drinks mixture to choose from, everything is delicious, great chillout Terrace, friendly staff, nice lounge music and pleasant atmosphere. Also recommended for evening cocktails and wine! Will definitely go there again!
