Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre

The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

Fossils found. Kids super happy. Gorgeous beach. Beautiful cliffs. We spent much longer than anticipated fossil hunting because it was so rewarding. Half of our family got wet shoes from enthusiastic shoreline searching but it was well worth it!

I love this location, this charming cafe where they have hand baked goods, home made delicious meals and the views are spectacular. I have been here in the fall and winter.
I love the fish and chips, the lobster looks amazing, the soups..I could go on and on.
When I stayed at Summer Lodge I went here 4 times...okay so I love the place.
Love the cute waitresses and the fact that you can buy goodies to take home.
Will always go back when I am in London it is worth the drive.

Palmers Brewery

Reviewed By MJandPJ - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Hugely enjoyable tour of a family-owned brewery of over 250 years standing. The knowledgeable guide gave a comprehensive account of the whole process and instilled the feeling of pride the owners and staff shared for their beers. In addition an understanding of the industrial and social history of the Town becomes apparent as the two aspects are so perceptibly intertwined. An impressive aspect is that historical machinery replaced by natural progress have been retained for viewing and the building alone is an architectural gem. A full two-hour tour was followed by a generous sampling session of a selection of the excellent ales produced.
Certainly a must do for any beer-lover, or anyone else for that matter who visits the Bridport area.

Hive Beach

A 1.9 mile easy stroll on almost flat ground along the South West Coast path, visiting the world-famous towering golden cliffs on Hive Beach, where Hitler was planning to land his troops in 1940, and where Allied troops subsequently practised climbing for the D-Day landings. Much older history can be found in fossils embedded in limestone boulders on the beach.
