Paleis Het Loo

Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. The palace is currently being renovated and will be re-opened in 2021, but you are more than welcome in the Gardens, stables, restaurants and at events in the palace Gardens.

Reviewed By 9000Gent - Ghent, Belgium

First of all, the palace has a large parking lot.
The entrance (ticket counter) is a new building with a very friendly and helpfull staff.
Then you start your visit beginning with the old carriages and even car oldtimers from the dutch royal family, followed by the horse stables.
Then you have a nice walk (10 minutes-there is a small shuttle bus) to the entrance of the palace.
The interiors of the palace are really stunning.
Alltough it was bad weather we enjoyed a walk through the wonderful Gardens (must be very beautiful in spring and summer, when the Fountains work)
Also a good tip is to lunch in the restaurant "ballroom". I ate a Sandwich with salmon (large portion) and my wife a ceasars salad (also large portion). I must say it was one of the best salmon I ever ate.
Also the interior of the "ballroom" is worth seeing.

Enjoy a day at the monkey zoo! Our small family (my husband, our 2-years-old daughter and I) attended Apenheul in October 2017 and is so glad that we visited this amazing place! It is a must-see for all wildlife lovers.
The entrance cost was about €36 for two adults. The monkeys were a lot of fun, in particular little squirrel monkeys which played on my daughter's buggy. The park is clean, easy to walk in, and very beautiful, especially in warm and sunny autumn days.
There are several cafes inside but most of them were closed. One we ate at was quite overcrowded and not so cheap. If you eat outside, there are usually Playgrounds close to eating area, so you can enjoy your meal while your children play. We liked it! Note that you can eat in specific places marked in a free map you get at the entrance. It is not allowed to eat in the area where monkeys walk.
The stuff is nice and friendly. There are some show-presentations of gorillas and orangutans (ones we attended).
Before the exit there is a big merry-go-round for free.
Highly recommend.

Berg en Bos is a fairly large park with some area's that are more architected than others. The English landscaping allows for some nice views. Traveling it is an attraction that comes along with others - it's probably not a stop on its own: within the park, but requiring and entrance fee, is Apenheul - the monkey resort. While it is often busy there, the masses get lost in the park (or even don't take a look). The other attraction in the park, again with its own entrance fee, is a more daring one: the klimbos - allowing you to climb tree's and maneuver from one to the others many meters high. So if your adrenaline levels needs to lower afterwards - take a walk.

I went here with my brother and hist of kids, children under 8 years old will enjoy this parc, there is a whole range of things to do.... A bit of climbing, there are lots of animals to see and feed (sheep, goats, bunnies, birds, fish....), you can go on a waterbike, go on a "train"ride or built things with huge lego blocks. It's not an amusement parc, but my niece and nephew loved it, just as much or even more as going to an amusement parc. The difference is, this is less crowded and also less expensive!.
The kids loved it, but children older than 8 will most likely get bored and are ready for more serious action.

This is one of the main attractions of the Netherlands. The summer palace of the royal family has been transformed into a museum, where you can visit the rooms where the kings lived. The Gardens are beautiful and inspired by Versailles. Schedule about 3 hours to be able to calmly visit the palace and Gardens

Family Amusement Park Koningin Juliana Toren

Ideal for families with children under 12 it has over 60 attractions ranging from roller coasters to bumper cars to shooting gallery to tea cups etc . There is also a childrens playground, bungee trampolines , shows etc. Once inside there are no extra costs which you get at other parks for certain stalls or activities , it is all included in one price. The food available varies from normal fast food to rolls and salads and all are well priced and not over the top like other parks
If I were to make 2 improvements it would be to make the park non smoking or have smoking zones as was horrible having to walk into wafts of smoke and to reduce the price for Adults as the rides are all aimed a children under 12 and as ours could go on all rides unattended it was seems that for an Adult to pay the same price and not go an anything is a little unfair. On the other hand is if this what keeps all attractions in the park free then I would not worry too much .
We have been here twice , once in 2012 and now in 2015 and it has got better and it was great the first time

Along with my father and elderly grandfather I visited the VSM for National Steam Train Day in May 2014. It was a great, well organised day despite the rainy weather! Firstly, it was easily accessible as the steam trains arrive and depart from the NS railway station in Apeldoorn, so we arrived on the train from Schiphol and just walked across. There was something different to see all day, from several steam trains carrying passengers up and down between Apeldoorn, Beekbergen and Loenen all day, to a demonstration freight train to see, to the (very) large collection of locomotives at the Beekbergen site, the staff in traditional attire, the turntable, the museum... It would be excellent for kids and for those of any age who like trains. There was food and drink on site, too, which was reasonably priced and of a good quality. Would definitely visit again.

This week I stayed in Apeldoorn and as the sun was shining I decided to go for a walk in the park next to the palace. One of the entrances is next to the entrance of the stables (the official entrance to the palace). You can do this separately and don't have to buy a ticket for the palace or the palace garden... this is a separate thing and costs you EUR 2,- for a whole day.
The park is huge... it has more open maintained areas and also some parts that is not really maintained and that you could call a forrest or wild area. It has ponds, it houses another castle (of which the grounds are open two months a year as it is still used by the royal family in other parts of the year), it has a deer park, a fish pond and many more things to see and to enjoy. I decided to go for one of the tracks that is set out by the care takers... a track of about 8 KM, but you can chose different ones, longer (the longest is more than 13 KM) or shorter of 3/4 km.
I really enjoyed walking here... no need to enter the palace, for me it was important to walk in nature all by myself and that I managed for quite some time. I enjoyed the fresh air/ clean.... the nice views and a bit later in the year the bushes will be in bloom which will turn the park into many colors making it even more enjoyable!.
I stayed for three hours, but one can stay much longer there is much to see or you can just sit and enjoy.
A good park/ forrest.... not the one with play things for children, but nature at it's best!. I would recommend it if you stay several days in Apeldoorn, you can even combine it with a visit to the palace and it's garden.... what is EUR 2 more after all?!.

We enjoyed our time in this park of Apeldoorn. The central feature is the music 'temple' where various musicians entertain the audiance on certain times during the year. The park has water features, flower beds, benches and it has a wooded area with shade as well. Perfect for a leisurely stroll and/or picknick. Enjoy!
