Spent a couple of hours wandering up and down taking photos, watching the fishermen and local people enjoying the lake.
The afternoon is popular with photographers. At this time, fires burning sent haze across the hills but nothing too serious.
At the twin dragon and stupa display you can buy food to excite the multitude of fish eagerly awaiting a snack.
Plenty of food and drink options to be had lakeside.

Wat Analayo was set up as a Buddhist retreat but has turned into a mini Buddhist theme park as construction has spread across the 2 hills it occupies.
Don't miss the 12 year thai calendar of birth signs right underneath the entry arch, carved out of sandstone and covered in coins for luck. Some beautiful statues, a large teak floored temple building and the patches of remaining forest were the highlights, but the rampant continuous construction and the derelict buildings are the low points. Don't miss the rainbow bridge that links the two hills. Fabulous views over Phayao city, the lake and surrounding countryside.
You will need transport to get here, its fairly well signposted from Asian Highway 2, there is carparking at the bottom and the top of both hills, but the smaller hill the road is very steep and narrow. As the temple is situated on top of two hills many of the paths are quite steep.

Sometimes I feel like if I never see another Thai Wat it won't bother me a bit. Yawn. This one is just the same, good for a glance before moving on, until you come to the heaven and hell sculpture garden which enthralled me. Very easy to miss as it is up the main road on the way out of town and at least a hundred meters from the main buildings. Come to this nook and ignore the rest.

we didn't particularly like the experience. setting off on a rowing boat and spending some time on the island seemed like a good idea but actually we regretted it. what was most unpleasant is that all sorts of animals, including turtles and eels, are kept in activity in appalling conditions in the sun, only to be released if you pay for them as a religious deed. i was tempted to throw the bucket full of turtles into the lake but then i don't fancy my chances in a thai jail. anyway, go to wat analayao thippayaram instead, absolutely magical

This is a good photo taking site. The temple itself is impressive with a small garden surrounding it. The walk into the temple itself is equally impressive with the white bridge. There are souvenir shops and small finger food for sale along the path to the toilet.

This temple is located in a magical location on the edge of a mountain-fringed lake. It took 33 years to complete and enshrines the largest Lanna style buddha image. The seated statue measures 16 meters high and 14 meters across the lap. Extra ordinary.
Its position on the shore of Kwan Phayao, the largest Freshwater lake in the upper north, stocked with fish which provide the livelihood for much of the locals. The surrounding scenery, particularly at sunset is stunning. There are plenty of food shops and recreation areas along the lake shore.

When in Thailand, a friend and I decided to try a week long silent meditation retreat here. We arrived at night to a creepy looking place full of hungry dogs and people doing walking meditation. We were instructed to meditate in our room (12x12 white walls, little bench to sleep on) for about 20 hours a day and get 2 meals a day. I was not prepared and it was extremely difficult. My friend and I did not feel comfortable there during our stay. So if you are new to silent meditation and want a more relaxed place I would suggest choosing somewhere else. I met plenty of experience people there who loved it and who were going on almost a year.

Location description:
This temple is far from the downtown. You may take almost 1 hour to reach the place from the Bus station. Besides, this temple is not on the roadside of main road AH2, you have to keep walking in small lanes for 100-200 meters after you turn away the main road. Best way to be here for backpackers might be to call the motorcycle divers; the local bus( Tuk tuk) doesn't drive passenger here.
Introduction:
The temple was established in 1495, which is kind of old.
Recommendation:
There is a museum in this temple, just on the left side of the main tower. The entrance is free, you just need to say hello to the monks who manage the museum.
There are hundreds of Buddha images and antiques in this museum, some of which are from Sukhothai. However, those images are just arranged in a random way without English introduction. This museum includes a lot of interesting stuff, if you want to understand more stories about here, I suggest you come with a Thai friend who is able to speak both Thai and English.
