No map to really guide you once inside. Confusing where to go with several flights up and down. English tours were not available due them being beyond the main season. Film first is a good idea. Pretty good signage in English. $12 per person entry...MoreThank you for your review. We are working continuously to improve the experience for our international visitors. Your review will help us in our development of Vadstena Castle. Sincerely Tom Andersson, Head of communications. Vadstena Castle

This museum is well worth a visit if you are interested in religion or history as it tells about the history of monastery and convent life as well as about the Saint Birgittas life. It brings a lot of magic to it that the museum is located within the walls of the old convent so that you walk into the nun's dormatories while Reading signs about how the convent worked as well as watching a lot of objects.
If you are interested in Reading everything you may have to spend a couple of hours walking within the museum, but it's still worth a stroll even if you just want to get the right historical feeling.
This is perhaps not the best museum to visit for children, even if there are two activities that they might find fun: writing with a featherpencil (and ink) and also a clothing closet where you can try on clothes from the 14th Century (well, the clothes are of course modern, but they are replicas of the fashion back then).
All in all we made a rainy day into something special by our visit. Also make sure to visit the church at the same time since they are located a stone's throw from each other. Also there is a guided tour every day, I think it was around 1 pm. We never went (there were enough info to read as well) but I think that it might be good to have somebody with special knowledge guiding you through the convent.

The Wadstena Fogelsta Historic railway comprises a preserved station ticket office and a small variety of locomotives and coaches dating from 1888 to 1954.
The railway runs from May to August and is staffed by volunteers.
We rode the train on a sunny Sunday in July. The staff were charming, welcoming and helpful. The steam locomotive dated from 1930 and we very much enjoyed the short run in both directions.
The tickets only cost 40 Krone per adult. A bargain!

This is a glassblowing shop. Inside there is also a small exhibition where you can watch a short film of how they blow glass. If you haven't seen this before this is a must. The things are so wonderful that it is hard to understand how glass can be transformed in such a way!
This place is easy to find, it is just next to the part of Klosterhotellet called "Slottsflygeln". It looks closed from the outside but the sign "ÖPPET" means that it is open.
