The Urk Lighthouse is significant, not only for the guidance it gave the ship's crews when IJsselmeer was still Zuiderzee, and Urk an small island, but this lighthouse was commissioned by King Willem II in 1844. A historic landmark.

The monument is not just the statue, but also all the plaques with the full names of deceased fishermen with their year they died and the age they reached. Impressive and something to think about when you look at the sea (although technically it is now a lake that you are looking at).

The name of this church does it justice and tells it all: 'little church at the sea'. It is of monumental value and is very close to the fishery monument remembering all the fishermen that lost their lives at sea.

We liked the combination of the scenes from 'way back when' and the movie that was shown about the history of the region with the battle with the water and how land was reclaimed and cultivated. Worth your visit!

We took 90 minutes trip (it cost 12,50 euro excl food) with the boat, seeing the wind mill park and Urk from the sea.
We ordered fish and chips for lunch on the boat, it was delicious and cheap (compare to other restaurants in Urk).
I believe the guide explains many interesting stories, unluckily, it was in Dutch. I hope to boat can provide something like brochure in English.

Voor tieners en jongeren een ideaal vermaak bij wat slechter weer zo krijgen ze de dag toch wel om. Zonder dat ze vervelend worden

As churches go this one is different. The main feature on the outside being the big round religious depiction on glass on one side of the building (top part). It depicts two men with white tops, a boat and a stick and fire.
