This is an example that cemetery is not always a place of monumental sadness and memories. This is rather a meeting place with history of Zakopane, it's famous personalities, as well as showroom of local sculptors. Each grave is different and you can feel a piece of history behind of all of them.

Ran / speed walked up there to get to the summit for around 7:45am - thats the way to avoid the masses of tourists and enjoy something a little special ...... made the mistake of running back down - 2 hours 20 mins for both the ascent and descent - allow for 6 hours on normal pacing :-) ....... the legs were a little sore the next day but the memories vivd

When you look at this church from outside you even cannot imagine how beautiful it is inside. Just a splendid work of local carpenters. The vault is really incredible.

cable car to summit of Mt Kasprowy Wierch (1985m) Once there stand with one foot in Slovakia and one in Poland. Station at top has restaurant, ski shop, can post mail there also. Spectacular views if weather permits. Skiing in winter (when open) and hiking in summer.

We visits in summer and there wasn't much to see. Whilst winter might be a better experience with snow, the attraction is a let down in that they've made no effort to elaborate on the sport or have information celebrating its previous and current world championships. Given Poland leads the sport and has a proud history in it, I expected more in that regard. Compared to the jump at Nagano, Japan, I think more could be done to enhance the experience.

This charming, wonderfully carved wooden chapel was an unexpected find on our mountain drive. It is very beautiful, inside and out. And if you're from the Chicago area, be sure to note the sign on the side of the chapel that explains the stonework was funded by Polish Highlanders now living in Chicago.

One of major tourist points in Zakopane, and probably in the whole southern Poland. Easily reachable by funicular from Zakopane, or by many different colour marked trails. Tarmac roads on top are closed for motorists, although many still do drive there. Top of the hill marked with a tall radio tower, then there's a large set of buildings with top funicular station and restaurants, with superb views over Zakopane and Tatra Mountains. Then there's a lot to see and do, providing your bank account can handle this. From horse back rides to rope parks, from paintball to gravity slides. Highest bouncy castle in Poland is also there. Hundreds of hut and stalls selling absolutely everything food and souvenir - wise.

Before I launch into detail, let me summarise by recommending this company wholeheartedly to you. This was my first skiing experience, my husband's first experience after 35 years, and our 17 year old daughter's second in 3 years, so we were all at different standards, but Pani Basia set up lessons according to our different skiing standards and catering for our language needs (I speak Polish but my husband and daughter don't).
So, here's the detail. Before we even set out, Pani Basia was in touch with us giving us lots of helpful advice regarding getting prepared for the trip and making payment. That advice was invaluable, particularly for us where we had not skied before. We arranged a pre-meet at our hotel prior to our first day on the slopes. Pani Basia was there promptly, brought us a full itinerary, telling us when we would be picked up, where we would meet, where we would get equipment from, providing us with maps and instructions, where we would get ski passes from, plus how we could contact her to arrange a lift back to town or our hotel. Basically she held our hands through every stage of our 5-day skiing experience. Let me summarise again, Ski Zakopane arrange everything, your transport, your equipment (excluding your own clothes), your lessons, your instructors and your ski passes. You need do nothing other than turn up and enjoy.
Our 5 days took us to 4 different slopes: Nosal, Małe Ciche, Witòw, and Białka Tatrzańska. Pani Basia herself taught me on the first day, ensuring my basics were well and truly in place. Her expert tuition ensured I stayed safe for the rest of the holiday. Subsequent days were with other instructors all of whom spoke excellent English (Marcin at Nosal, Grzegorz at Małe Ciche, Bartek at Witòw, and Maciej at Białka Tatrzańska). Each instructor assessed our skills and pitched lessons at our standard. Each slope had different challenges. Nosal is essentially a beginner slope, but the others are long runs, particularly the popular Białka Tatrzańska which has many different runs. At the end of my 5 days I found I'd fallen very little and far exceeded my expectations for the week (I'd only set out to snowplough on the baby slopes); that was down to Pani Basia's expertise in designing achievable lessons and sites as well as how she teaches.
I should also thank Pani Iwona who provided ski equipment hire, ensuring that fitted correctly.
One last thing I should make clear is that although lessons are fixed in terms of time, your return to Zakopane (or wherever you are staying) is not. You can continue skiing to your heart's content. Pani Basia will arrange your lift back whenever you want it with 45 minutes warning. You can therefore determine your own mix of ski vs après ski. Once you've sent your text requesting when you want your lift back, Pani Basia will confirm back to you telling you where to meet your driver. I have to thank all the mini bus drivers - they were all polite and very prompt. Special thanks to Pani Basia's dad who took us back to Zakopane by the scenic route, affording us spectacular views of the high Tatras.
Finally, do come to Poland/Zakopane to ski, and do use Ski Zakopane to make your skiing experience a great one! I guarantee you won't regret it!

The Koliba villa, the first building erected to Stanislaw Witkiewicz's design in the Zakopane Style, is situated at Kościeliska Street, Zakopane's oldest street with time-honoured houses and characteristic Tatra crofts at every step. In these surroundings we can better understand Stanislaw Witkiewicz's concept. Five rooms in the oldest part were arranged in accordance with their original function as, on the ground floor, the dining room, drawing room and bedroom, and, on the first floor, Gnatowski's room and his servant's room. Zygmunt Gnatowski's ethnographic collection returned to its place in the 'Tatra highlander's chamber'. Other pieces of furniture, household utensils and small craftsmen's articles, all in the Zakopane Style, come from the turn of the century when the style was in full bloom. The Museum of the Zakopane Style is the only place in Poland acquainting the visitor with the history of the achievements of the first theoretically wrought and successfully effected concept of a Polish national style based on the architecture and decorative art of the inhabitants of the region of Podhale.

On the way to the hotel we saw the wood church and curiously we stoped to visit, was not expecting too much....however when you were inside was totally amazing, everything out of wood and very whimsical!!! Thank god to show us that light place to make our first stop before start our adventure in Zakopane!!!
