The smallest of the Trójmiasto (Tri-Cities), the Baltic Sea spa town of Sopot is smack between Gdansk and Gdynia, just a few miles from each. A retreat for the rich and royal for centuries, Sopot’s exclusive air remained even through the Communist era, and the tony town has undergone a building boom in recent years. Boasting beautiful beaches and ritzy resorts, Sopot is also known for its Wooden Pier (the longest in Europe), the lovely mid-woods Forest Opera and lively Monte Cassino Street.

Located on the northern coast of Poland near Gdansk, Sopot Beach is famous for its white sands, nearby shops, restaurants, and other cultural happenings. The Baltic isn't known for its warm waters, but can be temperate in the late summer/early fall months.
We had a wander along the beach despite the inclement weather. Visible ice and snow along the edge....Where the swans do their bit for the tourists.
Vast and clean beach along the Baltic. Shielded in the back by neat Forests.
Not the best weather right now but worth a trip all the same.

I did not climb the stairs for the views, so cannot say much about these. But the lighthouse is an outstanding building with a curious history (not a very long, too). I was surprised learning that not only the building is rather recent (beginning of the 20th century) but as a lighthouse it started to function only in 1975! And at present it is more decorative that functional. Still, it is an interesting landmark in Sopot.

We had a day off from the port of Gdansk to head out to Soport to wander up the board walk on the super long (580m) pier into the Baltic.
Remnants of recent bad storms in the form of snow and ice (did the sea freeze?) On the beach and also the famous swans.
Busy spot on a Sunday afternoon but we'll worth the trip out of the city.
We wandered on to Sopot town also.

A kilometer..ish street filled with restaurants, bars and shops. Pedestrian street free of motorized vehicles is a luxury. The street leads down to the molo / pier. We found the street a lovely place to stroll along. It is vibrant and full of life. Weekend seemed to be quite busy, even out of season. Can only imagine how it is in season.

Please do walk up here - it's worth it. In the middle of the forest there is this modern outdoor theatre with good acoustics. Even if there would be no concert going it's worth just to have a look at the architecture. Sit down and maybe you'll get a chance to hear some artists rehearsing or just listen to the birds giving their concert. You can also have a glass of wine or beer at the bar.
Also on a hot day it gives you a chance to sit in the shade.

Poland may have its political and economic problems, but there's one thing not in short supply - churches. This one forms pretty much the centre of Sopot. And, from the outside at least, is quite pretty. But inside it's just pretty plain. Peaceful, though.

Easy cheap fun. Good service, nice carts but the track is not the biggest. But I would still recommend a race. They got a timetable.

This crooked house is a Costa coffee shop. I mean what can you add to that? It's a pity when you travel across europe and find such a beautiful building housing a U.K coffee shop owned by an English brewery but hey ho. Global village and all!!!

Lovely local feel while maintaining sense of specialness. Reminded me of home open air pool in the 70s with added extras.
Swim, float, walk through a series of pools starting with cool and gentle to bubbly and toasty for adults, pre-teens and teens.
Great outside area with sun drenched pool, beautiful and historic designed shady chairs. Senses awakening plunge into cold water pool.
You can pay for 1 or 3 hour sessions and then add an hour at a time. NB: the session starts on payment and ends at the till. So we went over by 20 mins. No drama.
Cafe inside well stocked with water, juices, coffee, hot dogs, pizza, ice-cream and waffles. Don't leave it til too late in the days for gofrys (waffles)
