For the men in our group this memorial site and small museum were interesting. For the first time we were seeing a World War I monument. We had all seen the WWII American cemetery in Normandy, France, but never one like this.
The museum was well done. There was plenty of artifacts found in the battleground to see, including a mock-up of a trench line complete with barbed wire. I enjoyed examining the various small arms pistols and rifles. Then there were the machine guns and heavy artillery pieces with wooden wheels.
Across from the museum was the monolithic memorial with hundreds of steps leading to the top. We were struck by the enormity, symmetry, and meticulous inscription of the fallen soldiers' names on the steps. The solitude of the moment with the absence of other tourists and tour buses made the experience more reverent.

A wonderful early church but the highlight, the rare early Christian mosaic floor, was partially hidden by a carpet down the central aisle. This may be due to preservation but it was a shame. The remainder of the floor is obscured understandably by benches and chairs.
The pulpit is impressive, but some overly heavy restoration has obscured the beauty of the church elsewhere. The mosaics by the lapidarium and the lapidarium itself, are impressive, but the latter is a bit jumbled.

The purpose of this museum of First World is to represent the war events and their human and social influences. After an introduction on the First World War, attention is focused on the events on the War front along the Isonzo: besides the weapons and arms there are also objects related to the daily life of the soldiers and a real life reconstruction of a trench. Then there is the documentation of the situation in Gorizia, a real "trenchtown" and the description of the 1917 and 1918 events, until the armistice between Italy and Austria on the 3rd of November. The First World War museum includes an area dedicated to General Armando Diaz, with an exhibition of documents, medals and other objects.
My review concerns only the "War Museum", because I've only seen this.
Although in my opinion it is not up - for museological quality - the similar Museums I've seen in Rovereto (Italy) and in Kobarid (Slovenia), it is still decent, and allows an adequate idea of some of the tragic aspects of World War I.
On this basis, a feature of the museum is (understandably) the particular attention to the role of Gorizia into the war. Gorizia was then Austrian city, then one of the objectives of the Italian attacks. Fought by opposing armies, it was largely destroyed and almost deserted by its inhabitants (during the most dramatic events, only 3000 people remained in the city).
Another distinguishing feature of the museum is the rare documentation (photographic or otherwise) on the attack in Sarajevo, which gave origin (1914) to the World War I, and on the "double funeral" (in Trieste and Vienna) of the victims, the Austrian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife.

My son recommended that we visit Smartno and we weren't disappointed. The whole village is magnificent. Set up high and looking down on the terraces of the Slovenian Tuscany area, it was majestic. Great place for a photo shoot! Had a lovely meal at one of the little restaurants. Great food and great service - even gave us a complementary drink!! Parking is easy and doesn't cost anything. Smartno is a must for anyone who want to experience the real Slovenia. We were both blown away by it.

A casino hotel is never my first choice, but this one was pretty good. Big rooms with extra sitting room, so loads of space, really good value for money. The Spa and pool where also a big hit. Tip avoid this hotel on weekends, as it is overrun with old Italians blowing there pension money.

From it's Slovenian source and along the Battlefields of World War I (please read Ernest Hemingway, "A farewell to Paradise"), the Isonzo river reaches it's estuary into the Adriatic Sea. Between it's main river bed and the Canale Quarantia (slightly East of the main river), there is a narrow peninsula called Isola della Cona. Here, the Italian organization of National Parks has reshaped an old farmhouse to serve as a visitor's center, whilst a nearby building has a café and spaces where educational courses can be given. The visitor's center serves as a starting point for a walk around an artificial lake, where nowadays many birds breed, and you truly can see how nature finds it's way back to... nature. On top of that, several horses also live in the area; during summer season, you may book a ride on them.

The ZOFF Farm has been breeding and feeding the Pezzata Rossa Italiana cows for three generations. The cows’ milk is used to make Ricotta and yoghurt, Latteria cheese, Caciotta cheese and flavoured Caciotta with herbs: rose petals, elder flowers, sage, rosemary, basil, pot marigold and nettle and yoghurt, a special one.On the farm you can find the dairy and the shop.
We used TripAdvisor to find this place and sure glad we did. When we arrived to this farm home, it didn't seem like it was open but a lady appeared who didn't speak any english. She has two very large german shepherds. She let us in and gave us a sample of the cheese. We bought a huge wheel of cheese (it was cheap compared to the U.S.) and she threw in 2 jars of yoghurt. That was the best yoghurt I have ever had.

Certainly not the easiest place to find while driving unless you check out exactly where it is (Google Maps and Street View) before going. Many of the brown signs are covered by vegetation.
We ended up parking halfway up the hillside along a limestone track, leaving the car, and following some small "woodland trail" type signs to find a section of trenches. This involved a walk of a kilometre or so along well-maintained tracks for the most part, then a turn up a grassy path on the hillside. Eventually we found a partially-preserved section of trenches in good condition which was hugely fascinating to our 7-year-old.
Had we had more time, we'd have explored the area further. Midday Italian sun is nothing for kids that age, who appear able to scamper up any little side-track no matter how hot the sun is! Ours captured a grasshopper at the foot of the hill and took it with him for the whole time.
Certainly interesting to see, and worth making the effort required to get there, but you feel that more could be made of what is an important historical site.
Only a few kilometres from the grand Redipuglia monument, though, so can be fitted into a local itinerary without too much trouble. Note that Aquileia - with its fantastic early church and Roman history - is also nearby.

Our company Palsit d.o.o. attended team building in Soča Fun Park few weeks ago.
We spent a wonderful afternoon in adrenaline park near Soča river. We were able to test our psychophysical abilities high above the ground and socialising with eachother outside the office. The zip line was the final touch. :) Special thanks to excellent guides who encouraged us to acheive the goal :) Definitely reccomend it!
