we tried to get a reservation for a dinner table but unfortunately the were completely booked. on short notice, they offered us a table and afterwards we luckily took the trip.
it was amazing.
service, wine, food - the best combination i've had in a long time. this place is not uptight as many other top notch restaurants. we went to the cheese and wine rooms after dinner and even bought some cheese and bread for breakfast next morning.
we all agreed, that we never had any comparable tasting experience. the combinations of food and wine were so delicately arranged, that you forget any other 3 michelin star dinner you ever had.
thank you!!!

Nina and Monika make you feel so welcome, dining there is a special occasion. The meals are all excellent, especially the steak in balsamic sauce. Everything is explained clearly to you, there is a very good choice of wine too.

Wwelcome, Our restaurant Topli val –a meeting place of the Mountains and the sea , the Alps and the Adriatic. Restaurant Topli val has 41 years tradition as a family run and become famous for fresh sea food. While enjoying the sea culinary specialities and selected Slovenian wines, you should not leave without trying the traditional dessert »Kobariški štruklji«. During the wormer months we have Terrace where we served meals. Family
Top season in Kobarid / Soča valley is something that we tourists may not understand. Crowded restaurants often close the doors as the expected waiting time would be more than an hour and they want to avoid dissapointments. In last decade(s), tourism boomed but the local tourism facilities obviously didn't follow entirely. I actually like it as it seems the nature remained same as it was.
Modri val was a bit different that evening. There was no chance to eat immediately and the waitress offered us to make a reservation for an hour later. A beer in the nearby bar and we were back.
We ate local sheep cheese with apple and honey as a starter, homemade potato gnocchi with game meat, veal viennese style and mixed grilled meat. The grilled trout was nicely filetted which doesn't happen often in an average Slovenian restaurant. Desserts: tiramisu, gibanica and superb "kobariski struklji" / kind of ravioli with dried fruit, nuts and cinnamon filling. Couvert included mini bruschettes wit fresh tomato & co. Could be bigger or two per person, but that was ok. It came quite quickly and kept us busy for a while.
The personnel was great, kind, communicative, professional and always available even on such an exhaustingly hot day.
Well done and thanks again.

We waited 25 minutes just to order foood, while waitress was talking with some italians and then we waited 40 minutes for meal. I walked around and saw staff sitting in the kitchen. It was busy afternoon but I don't understand how it took that long because we were only that ordered main meal. We later asked for bill an waited 20 more minutes for waitress to give us change back. Really slow restaurant.

on the Soca river, a caravan park with restaurant; features crepes (they call them pancakes) for dinner and dessert and fantastic fresh trout. Too ban Slovenian is not one of the choices above
After a very disappointing dining experience at the nearby world renown Hisa Franko we happily soothed our mind and stomach in this lovely restaurant short walk from Kobarid.
Location is fantastic and food was delicious and more than good.
I say poor attitude, in fact host could be more friendly especially to waiter or owners that attended our table which was speechless and not interested at all in sharing a word, can't recall him greeting upon arriving nor upon leaving.

If we didnt find this place thru Tripadvisor we wouldnt have stop here. From outside it looks more as an below average grill restaurant where they server famous cevapcici dish. The same gos for inside. Everything changes we you begin to eat. Fish is fresh from the ocean or lakes, the same goes for pasta. Food to go to if you are in Kobarid.

We chose Gotar bar after walking in Kobarid. Thay have a very nice terase, wooden chairs and very good prices. Beer (0, 5l) is 2,20 eur, white wine 0,1 l 0,70 eur etc. Thay have different types of Italian panini, banana split, ice-coffe etc. 1 scoop of ice cream is 1 eur. :)

Really good hamburgers, made with a genuine bun and real meat! Very cheap (3,9€ for a burger) and enough for a lunch bite. Friendly waitress who speaks perfectly english and a quick service. Top adress in Kobarid

Lamb sourced directly from their own eco-farm. We ate lamb cutlets, roast lamb and lamb gnocchi - the sharing platter. Amazing taste and quality. Excellent customer service with friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended. One of our best meals during our trip to Slovenia.
