If you don't fancy eating in the more touristy areas of Trieste, just a ten minute drive will take you to this restaurant.
The service is impeccable, and the food served is fresh; and all in all a very positive experience. I can highly recommend the "salty pancake", which is a local speciality and full of fresh basil flavour. Another interesting taste was the pheasant gnocchi. The only thing slightly lacking, perhaps, would be the aesthetics of the dishes, but the taste makes up for that 100%!
The red wines on offer are reasonably priced, and the particular one that we tried was full bodied, local and delicious.
The Terrace was calm and relaxing, and the place is also dog friendly.

The Osteria alla Mare alla Voliga is a convivial place, simple and informal, where you can taste fish dishes with polenta offered every day, and is a reference point for local customers and tourists since 1981.
we went for a family lunch here, the place was fully booked by locals so book a table ahead. we tried some different seafood, from pasta to zuppa del pesce, grilled fish and calamari. the seafood was fresh, but the choice was a bit limited, depending on the availability of thr fresh seafood. I miss some better wine choice but overall it is a nice and simple place. the owner is very friendly and the pices are definetely low for the quality of the food

Been there yesterday night. Not really what i was expecting. I don't understand previous reviews. Overpriced for what is served. I got a tuna steak which was small and average taste. The mixed food was average and extremly salty. The owner not particularly friendly. It was dry also with our neighbours. He completely changed the service as soon as they told him they knew a friend of the owner. Atmosphere average. No possibility to get a manu. On the overall i would not recommend this restaurant.

12 of us; cheerful helpful waitress. Today's special is anchovies, plump and delicious. Tuna carpaccio also excellent with aubergine fried like whitebait. Risotto a highlight, undefinable subtle flavours and perfectly al dente. Fish again for main course (there is meat option) and no need for pudding. Perfect. Despite large group, service charge not added to bill; very happy to do so.

Locale storico a Trieste vicino al Castello di San Giusto.
Libero is one of the most original restaurants anywhere we have been, with an unmatchable atmosphere, fantastic food, spectacular wines, super friendly owners.
It is a historic venue, graced by the favours of the European intellectual élite, James Joyce first and foremost. A whacky collection of paraphernalia and old photographs covers walls and ceiling. The dark red hue suits the sanguine ambience perfectly, creating an appetite for good food and drink, which gets duly satisfied with the robust yet wisely prepared dishes, in particular the beef and the desserts, but everything else is worth trying as well. Libero has seduced our senses.

This place is a gem! If you like "Balcanian" cuisine you cannot miss it. I was in Trieste for a job and decided I had to go after having read a couple of raving articles!
Sasha is the owner and he will be your perfect host. He will suggest what is fresh and available.
Stepping in Rustiko is like entering Sasha's home you will be part of the family and became a friend!
He suggested for us a mix plate to taste what was available today and was a super dish, everything so fresh and full of flavor.
Price is very good and superb value for money!!
Sasha thanks again and we will be back soon!!

Lovely little bar with amazing Goulash. Limited selection of beers but what they had was very nice but a bit expensive at €6.5 a pint. Very friendly English speaking barman/owner & very efficient staff, they work a small area well. With a little help, this bar was wheelchair accessible.
