The world's first hospital dedicated to these creatures.
The majority of the injured Koalas are housed behind dark screens so that they're not disturbed and human interaction with them is kept to a minimum.
There are some long term resident Koalas here that aren't behind cover and can be seen going about their normal routines (sleeping, eating and more sleeping).
This is the only place (that I'm aware of) that specialises in rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured Koalas.
Everyone here is a volunteer and there isn't any Government funding, so please give what you can to help support the work being done here.
There isn't an entry charge, so please donate or buy some souvenirs at the gift shop to assist funding the ongoing operation of this facility.

HELLO KOALAS SCULPTURE TRAIL, PORT MACQUARIE Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is a fun and entertaining day out for people of all ages. There are over 56 one metre high fibreglass koala sculptures, dotted across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region, from the Mountains to the sea. The hand painted and mosaic sculptures have been created by selected artists and offer a dazzling display of original artwork. Hello Koalas is a bold, ambitious and imaginative sculpture project, which celebrates one of Australia's iconic animals - the Koala. Above all, it is designed to generate a sense of fun and surprise for everyone who comes across one of the creatively decorated koalas resting in parkland, lazing by the river, waiting outside the shops, or playing with children. The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail Guide is available at most Tourism outlets, including the Visitor Information Centre at the Glasshouse in Clarence Street, in Port Macquarie's CBD or you can download a pdf online before you arrive. The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is not owned by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. The Trail is run by a private family company and the Hello Koalas sculptures are sponsored by local businesses and organisations to enable the Trail to be a free and fun experience for all ages.
We were just staying in Port for a couple of days, but stumbled across the trail. We only spotted a few in the town centre area but they were beautifully decorated. A good way of wandering around catching the sights.

This Museum appears deceptively small from the outside but upon entering you will be surprised at the number of displays inside. Displays are of a good standard and well signed. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the Museum is a credit to the efforts of the volunteers of Port Macquarie,

Having taken a scenic tour around Port Macquarie we selected the Black Duck to quench our thirst. It is located in the industrial area of 'Port' (parking on the road available) but is tastefully furnished with timber slabs for tables. It was a Friday evening so the place was filling up and the barbeque was heating up - sounded like a good night starting up!! They have a great range of unique beers/ales & Porters and we had a taster paddle to start. The Phoenix Migration Stout is incredible - a sweet taste initially & a dry finish with a hint of aniseed. Wow what a brew and at 7.5% ABV great on any occasion. The owners are hands on and with a friendly staff this brewery is a little gem!! Even the black Great Dane is laid back with customers coming and going!

Walks along the river pass through varied scenery inluding boat sheds, grassy reserves, Beaches and a long sea wall. It is possible to cross the river by car ferry to explore the less developed North Shore of Port Macquarie. Fishing is popular and boat hire available in many places.

One of my absolute favourite things to do in Port Macquarie is to walk along the Breakwall with my family in the afternoon.
Town beach end has an amazing park which Miss 3 just loves.
Pack a picnic blanket and a cheeky beverage to sit down on the town green once you’re back and it’s the most perfect family walk.

We stumbled upon this by accident as we were looking for the Koala Hospital and Roto House is located right next door (sharing the same visitor carpark). A worthwhile stop to have a look around and soak in the atmosphere of a historical old home.

The opportunity to walk through a rainforest environment without needing to trek into the Wilderness is not to be missed. The setup caters for almost everyone; it's safe for children (and there are some activities to cater for them specifically) and while the whole walk is about 1.3km, just a few steps from the start will still give a great experience (and it's wheelchair accessible too). As with any of these things, seeing the wildlife takes time and patience but even if they are hiding you can just enjoy the forest and read up on the plantlife.
