Why a private tour? At Tours by Jorge we recognize that not everyone wants to see and do the same things and sometimes you just want that extra personal attention. Whether its more history, or more shopping, good food recommendations or getting off the beaten path...we customize our tours to meet the needs of our clients.
We did two full day tours with Jorge and were swept away by the personalized seaside tour ...Jorge was our guide to understanding the Portuguese history, and its affect on their peoples' calm, warm and humane perspective of life.
First the four of us were picked up at our arbnb promptly and in comfort and headed to Nazare, Obidos and Ericeira to enjoy the sites, smells of the Atlantic ocean. We had time to explore on our own as well as were taken to a locals' restaurant to enjoy the best of seafood. Our second tour was of Sintra and Cascais and again was given a geological and biology lesson enroute. Also went to the farthest western point in Portugal at Praia das Macas and Cabo Da Roca. We had time to explore on our own as well as see those most remarkable ports of call by the sea. Great job Jorge!

Scenic formal Gardens with good plasterwork and tiles in an unfurnished house.
Antithesis of the (overly-)touristy attractions in Lisbon. It was so pleasant going around the house and grounds and not hearing English being spoken by other visitors! 10 min walk from Oeiras station (on the Cascais line). Close to cafes and restuarants in Oeiras village - although good value vending machine onsite.

Royal residence of two generations of monarchs, only fifteen minutes away from Lisbon, the National Palace of Queluz is intimately linked with significant figures in Portuguese history. Today it constitutes a major heritage site in Portuguese architecture and landscaping, and contains an important collection which reflects royal taste during the eighteenth and nineteenth century - from Baroque, through Rococo, to Neoclassicism.
Amazing palace modeled on Versailles, and in the process of major restoration and renovation. Interior done with the level of detail you would expect in a palace, with inlaid tile, marble, lead crystal chandeliers, hand worked rugs, some original furniture, paintings and more gold leaf than you can imagine (unless you've been to Versailles). Mini Hall of Mirrors, too. Beautiful Gardens, National treasure with a facinating history.

The Carcavelos Surf School came in 2001, with the first school of surf on the beach in Carcavelos. Teachers are experienced and accredited by the Portuguese Surfing Federation. The school has facilities that are appropriate to students' needs (clothing, hygiene) and a wide range of boards and suits of neoprene. The classes are for students of all ages and different levels.
I highly recommend Carcavelos Surf School as the best surf school to learn Surfing ! :-) Carcavelos Surf School is the place to be, if you want to learn Surfing within a professional environment. I use to go joggin in Estádio Nacional and it is really cool: there are many circuits, with beautiful views to the river, there are "cafes", peopela are nice and helpfull. There are areas where dogs are permitted and areas where not. Lot's of people in good weather and weekends and very peaceful the rest of the days.

To get here you take the same train as for Sintra, which is heaving with tourists. This place isn't, and I have no idea why as it's like a much smaller Versailles. I'm sure there were more staff than visitors there on the beautiful day we went. The design of the palace which is almost entirely on one floor, is very reminiscent of northern Europe, building and Gardens. It is worth having a walk around the Gardens, as there are lots of little treasures to find. They could do with a few more comfortable benches in the shade out there, as the views are just lovely and need to be enjoyed. Parts of the garden are currently under renovation, but don't let that put you off, there is still loads to see.

It rained, heavily, during my first day so bars/cafes were closed. But two days later, on a Sun, the weather was brilliant and the beach and cafes were transformed and were full of people. Activities included netball, yoga, picnicking, sunbathing, Surfing, walking and running. It was wonderful to be part of this out of season experience in November.
