We have a love of history and we thought this outdoor museum was just wonderful. We spent three or four hours here wandering around the site and the buildings from the different eras.
Handy cafe. Helpful and knowledgeable staff who are obviously and rightly proud of the museum.
Check the opening hours before you go. They change according to the seasons.

Ruthven Barracks

Reviewed By Donald M - Glasgow, United Kingdom

I was traveling from Dundee to Starthpeffer, when I decided to visit the Barracks.
This was my second visit to the site.
The Barracks are situated about a mile outside Kingussie.
This is a "free" site for Historic Scotland, which is unbelievable!
I have visited sites that you have to "pay" for, which offer no value for money!! Linlithgow Palace Springs to mind!!
There is a carpark opposite the site.
There is a reasonable climb up to the Barracks, but is well worth the effort.

The Wildcat Experience

Reviewed By Susan D - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

In order to make the most of this trail it is worth purchasing the guide from the centre, the post office or the glen hotel. Even though the backpack with carrier bag pen guide etc seemed designed for children it was well received by all. There are a surprising number of wildcat models around the town and makes walking about very competitive. The models are uniquely decorated with interesting names. The trail itself is a very nice walk.

We where staying in the area and visited twice in the fortnight as a large (11) and more manageable party (6) On both occasions service was prompt, the food great. Could not be faulted at the price. Fused and Light

Reviewed By Dave F - Newtonmore, United Kingdom

I undertook a short course in fused glass with enthusiastic owner Anne and found it particularly enjoyable and stimulating. As an artist, I had a different 'take' on what I wanted to do with fused glass, and Anne was more than happy to accommodate what I wanted to try. I was able to select the kinds of glass I needed from her vast range of materials and when the results came back I was immensely pleased with them. When I have more time, I shall certainly go back and make a nuisance of myself again.
This is a stimulating experience and one everybody can try - but it's not the only thing at Fused and Light - there are cards, prints and original paintings on show too, and Anne's range of fused glass encompasses everything from pieces for display to jewellery.
There is no cost to visit, but very reasonable fees if you want to try fused glass.
Well worth a visit, though not always open.
