Keelung, officially known as Keelung City (Chinese: 基隆市; pinyin: Jīlóng Shì), is a major port city situated in the northeastern part of Taiwan. It borders New Taipei with which it forms the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, along with Taipei itself. Nicknamed the Rainy Port for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwan's second largest seaport (after Kaohsiung).

Our bus stop drops us off here. We were able to see some naval vessels and tug boats docked. On the concrete platform, there are some destinations and their distance and which directions they are from here too which is interesting. Other than that, not much else to see. At night, a bit further down towards the main area of the harbour, its more interesting with street performers and some landmarks. Good photo opportunities.

Peace Island, connected by a causeway to Keelung, guards the entrance to Keelung Harbor. It provides a public park with a clean beach and rocky coastline eroded into dramatic formations.
A disappointing morning in the Pingxi area was forgotten about with a trip to Heping Island. I took the train to Haikeguan and T99 tourist bus to Heping Island from NMIST. From the bus stop its about 7-8 minutes walk, and despite part of the island being closed due to maintenance, it was still worth the visit. I got lucky with the weather, and Keelung's usual rain was replaced by scorching Sunshine, ensuring the views were both clear and spectacular. If you walk up to the pavilion type shelter, you can see right along the mountainous coast line and the rock formations, some of which almost looks like Ireland's Giants Causeway. You can Keelung Islet and it's worth stopping for a while just to admire the views and relax. Definitely worth making the 6 hour trip from Tainan to come here.

Chaojing Park is located in the east side of the Badouzi peninsula and faces the Wanghaixiang bay. Although it was originally the site of a 1000 square meter landfill, the construction of the NMMST has brought about a huge transformation. Chaojing Park now features a parking lot, bike trails, futons, garden chairs, lawns and landscape sculptures, making it a wonderful place to walk, jog, bike and go sight-seeing. Inside the park, a local poet has left his works to allow tourists to appreciate the maritime lifestyle.
I went there in the evening. The colors of sky was really amazing, and the sea reflect all the colors. I sit on the lawn and breeze caressed my face. Everything is just awesome. There are few tourists so you can enjoy silent moment with nice sunset.

The National Museum of Marine Science & Technology is providing a series of lively and exceptional exhibits which represented the various interactions between human being and marine environment. To tell how marine science and technology bring us a future vision where people live in harmony with ocean. The exhibition is divided into 9 galleries.
This museum is so awesome!!! It cost only 200NT (less than 10USD) to get in and there are altogether 8 permanent Exhibitions in the main building, complemented with 1 special exhibition and 3D IMAX. The displays all comes with english introductions, are very interactive and high tech, with giant sculptures everywhere for photo taking. Takes half an hour by bus from Keelung central area and is right beside hai ke guan train station which brings you to the old streets of pingxi, jingtong, hongtong, etc. Highly recommended for fishery, science, technology and marine lovers!

The plaza is clean and well decorated with colourful statues and gives the tourist a great welcome to the city. Great views of the harbour and surrounding hillsides. Plenty of things going on, especially the uniqe opportunity to view the Balck Falcons coming in to eat fish from the harbour.

We found ourselves in this temple while we were looking for something to eat at the Miaokou Night market --- yes, Keelung City's night market, easily identifiable with the hanging bright yellow lanterns. Actually, curiosity made us explore this temple. When we came, there were only a handful of locals praying. We took our time meandering and taking pictures. For us, it was worth a visit.

It is a place have a lot of fun. Kids can observe many creatures here and play all day long. However, the rocks are very slippery and you need to always watch your step. Another thing to mention, don't forget to bring your garbage away when you leave. Some people just don't treasure the beauty of the mother nature.

A great place to visit excellent for walking or having a picnic. The only problem is when it's busy it's too noisy and spoils the tranquility of the spot. It's definitely a place to see close to a disused Fort so a short hike will take you there with stunning views of the North coast. I recommend it. Take water as there are no stores there but plenty of toilets :-)
