There are three components to this Open air museum, the statues out doors, the Picasso collection and the collection of small works in the gallery above the cafe. Even one is worth the admission fee, but we got all three. An absolute must do, and what made us choose Hahone as a place to stay during our short Japanese holiday.

100 paintings to demonstrate the 100+ years.
Not just the history, it shows beauty of the paintings also.
Got impressed by many of them.
Thank you very much.
Around the museum, there is a walking path in the forest.
Walked about 10 minutes.
I would recommend this also.

Depending on time of year and interest, the pottery or the garden are worth visits in their own right.
We were lucky - saw fabulous autumn colour in the lovely Gardens. Luckily most visitors don't stay long.
Next to the cog railway station or possible to walk up the 2 stops.

This place can be easily reached by taking the bus from Mishima Station. There are many types of fort ruins, each with interesting purposes/ stories behind it and you can even stand in some forts. However, there are no English explanations so it may not be too tourist-friendly for those who don't speak Japanese.
People who enjoy hiking would enjoy this place as well, since there is a lot of walking and wandering around in nature.
Just make sure to bring water because I don't remember seeing a vending machine there. The only place with food/drinks I remember seeing is an udon noodle place right where you get off the bus. (And maybe bug repellent spray if you don't like bugs)

It was nice but pretty crowded and felt a bit like a tourist trap. Nice view of Mount Fuji before the clouds started to cover it up. You can also look through the grate and see the valley down below. You probably won't need more than an hour here.
At a booth near the bus stop right by Izuhakone Railway's Mishima Station, you can buy "Mishimaru Ticket" for 900 yen which allows you to take the bus freely in the area (return bus fare to Sky Walk alone is normally 1120 yen), like to Yamanaka Castle Ruin Park 4 minutes away by bus. You can also get a set ticket for the bus pass and entrance to Sky Walk for 1800 yen (1000 yen just for admission usually) and you'll have to change that for the admission vouchers at the entrance. It takes roughly 30 minutes by bus (2 to 3 buses an hour on weekends and just once an hour on weekdays).

I can highly recommend this Museum. Here you get a wonderful "overview" about Japanese history, especially the porcelain Exhibition is amazing.
Probably due to quite high entrance fee, Museum is not crowded, compared for example to the National Museum in Tokio. But here, presentation is PERFECT and you can fully enjoy the visit of this Museum, including a beautiful garden and nice tea house.

A short walk from where the pirate ship drops off, this shrine is absolutely gorgeous. The worship area is located up a gorgeous walk and several flights of stairs, and the iconic tori gate is on the opposite end of that walk, on the lake. There is usually a pretty long line waiting for for a photo opportunity with the gate and the lake, so be prepared to wait.

The boat was a lovely activity. Pay the little extra and get nice seats in first class (or you can buy the ticket on the boat)

Fantastic museum
I love every piece, especially the perfume section with original bottles.
We had a short private tour by one of the guides at the museum. It was very helpful. She chose her favourite pieces and elaborated on them.
We also met a lovely French lady, tour guide outside that help us a lot to go around and made our trip much easier.

We went there, because the lake cruise was cancelled due to bad weather. What a beautiful small museum with wonderful art. Enjoyed it tremendously. Beautiful watercoulours, Great landscapes, Good views over the lake from the museum coffee shop.
