This is possibly the best-known eel restaurant in Mishima. Every day long queues form outside - people from all around come here. As Mishima is pretty near Tokyo and resort areas like Hakone and Atami, tourists come here, too.
The restaurant is traditional in style, and serves excellent JAPANESE eel (constantly rising in scarcity and price!!) Chinese imports are never as tasty, and often have a rather reddish appearance, suggesting the use of chemicals to enhance their look and smell...
You get what you pay for.
In that sense, Sakuraya is not cheap, but it certainly offers high quality and agreeable service. When you arrive (come early) sign up on the waiting list (there's a commissionaire there to help you).

Its a small entrance on your way down from Mishima station. Unassuming, off-putting for foreigners (low curtains at the entrance).
Possibly the best value in town for eel... but:
1. No wheel chair access - impossibly narrow stairs up to 1st floor.
2. Dismal surroundings - you'll be sitting among beer crates, and a view of the kitchen services, including a dumb waiter. The staff are loud, wear low slippers (Crocs) and troop about as if they were in an army canteen. The conversation
among the staff is too loud.
3. The prices are simply "OK". We paid 6000 yen for two, for basic eel on rice. NO trimmings (beer, dessert)
4. The service is sullen, lacking in charm and care.
Recommendations: BRUSH UP your act. Clean up, THINK of your customers. Give your staff NEW UNIFORMS, GET THEM TO STOP chattering, but to TALK in a FRIENDLY WAY to customers.
After all, the restaurant is NOT cheap.

以前、夜の接客具合の残念さを口コミしましたが、ここのところは昼間にお邪魔しています。必ず外で待つのですが、やっぱり鈴福のミソラーメンは美味しいです。実はカレーも美味しいですよ。

Fukutarohonpo is located in Mishima shrine area. You can take a rest with tea and sweets called Fukutaro.
Fukutaro is so delicious. It is a kind of rich cake with bean paste. The taste and outlook is outstanding. You can try it only 2 or 3 USD.
I hope you do not miss this sweets when you visit Mishima.

My wife and I ate here one evening and found the food, the service to be excellent. The place is just to the East of the North entrance to the JR station next to a ghutan restaurant. The restaurant has quite a few counter seats and has an English menu if requested. If you are lucky there is a young lady who speaks very good English. I think the last order may be 10 PM.
I highly recommend this place on the North side (Toyoko Inn side) of the Mishima JR station.

I don't understand why a previous reviewer thought this restaurant's menu was unsuitable for vegetarians. I'm vegetarian and I found plenty of choices. Maybe they have changed their menu. Anyway, the quality of the lunch was so much better than the usual uninspiring pseudo-Indian food that has become the norm in much of Japan.
Recommended!

Tasty food, reasonable prices. a large Seating area, but you'll probably have to sign in and wait to be called. Italian inspired food - at least the pizza is not "Japanese size"!!
Unlimited bread (choose from a large variety, including some small pizza slices).
Pleasant staff.
Airy, great for families, lunches with friends. Very informal.

Hamazushi is a few steps way from Mishima Taisha. There is parking downstairs, and stairs or a life to the restaurant on the second floor.
You give your name to an attentive waitress, saying whether you would like to sit at a table or at the bar, and then you wait to be called.
The place is large and airy, and often busy, especially at weekends or when there's a festival at the Taisha, but you shouldn't have to wait long - the assistant will tell you how long you can expect to wait!
The sushi comes on a conveyor belt. Take what you like. There is also an electronic ordering system, but yu might need some help from a Japanese speaker to manage this.
When you have eaten your fill, push the button to ring for the assistant. She will count up your empty dishes and print your bill, which you then take to the cash desk (cash only).
I find this among the best in Mishima - certainly better than similar outfits on Route 1.
