1. Satta-toge Pass

Satta-toge is old Tokaido, located between Yui-syuku and Okitsu-syuku. It is very good view point, you can see Mt.Fuji, Suruga-gulf, Tomei-highway, Route #1 at once.
From Yui-syuku, you go west, and turn right for old Tokaido. You will arrive [Ichiriduka(Milestone of Tokaido)], that is entrance of Satta-toge. Road will be narrow and uphill, you go into loquats and watson pomelo farm. At the Satta-toge, you can see Mt. Fuji, Suruga-gulf, Tomei-highway, Route #1 much under eye.
There is parking and toilet at Satta-toge. After Satte-toge, you will go small road light side of toilet. That is old Tokaido, you can't find on google map.
After descending, there are Shirohige Shirine. You will arrive at Okitsu-syuku.
東海道由比宿から興津宿の間にある薩埵峠。本来江戸時代には、すんごくすんごく大変な道、すんごく大変な道、大変な道の3種類の峠道があったようですが、現在旧道が通っているのは普通の「大変な道」のみです。
由比宿からだと、東海道を西に進みます。左手に東名と国道１号を見ながら、崖を登っていきます。坂はどんどんきつくなり、両側はオレンジ色の枇杷と夏みかんの畑に。道幅は狭く、コンクリートの道は農家と思われる軽トラックが時折通る程度。ある程度登り切ったところで、左手は遥か眼下に駿河湾。振り返れば富士山が見えます。薩埵峠に駐車場とトイレがあり、これを超えると道幅は一人分。石と土の道となる。ここからは興津に向けて下り。Google Mapにも載っていない道を進みます。下りきった所に白鬚神社があり、ここから平地を進むと興津宿です。

When we were there, it was drizzling and it seems that all the animals are taking shelter inside their quarters. Most of the animals enclosures are empty. So we managed to visit the indoor animals like turtles, Penguin etc. The zoo closes at 4.30pm thus do be early if you want to catch it.

Very similar to other shrines we have seen in Japan. This is a very peaceful place. Great for taking pictures, fantastic details.

We visited this shrine as one of our tour locations before heading towards Mt. Fuji. The buildings that comprise this shrine are colorful and peaceful. The colors are vibrant and the wood carvings show clear details.
There are Gardens adjacent to the shrine that leads to peaceful meditation.

This beach is reached after walking through a small pine grove. Part of the grove includes the 650 year old black pine, which apparently inspired a local legend about a dancing angel. Once you reach the beach, don't expect glistening white sand, it is more like crushed lava in colour, but this does not detract from the beach. If you are lucky and follow the beach around the peninsula you may catch a glimpse of Mt Fuji.

One building contains the actual market with a few small restaurants. The second building closest to the bus and train station has two levels and the majority of the restaurants.
The market sells mostly seafood. It is the cleanest fish market we have ever visited. Everything was nicely presented and no strong odors.
The restaurants vary in size. Some specialize only in sushi and seat 20, several of the larger restaurants that seat 50 offer a combination of cooked and uncooked items. Check out the vending machines, or gachapon (sp?) - they are all fish and seafood themed items.
After lunch, we waited 15 minutes for a taxi at the stand near the train station to take us back to the ship. The driver did not speak English. Fortunately but we had a postcard of the ship and he understood where we wanted to go.

The ropeway leads to the beautiful kunozan shrine which is worth the visit. You travel on the cable car over the valley.
There is also an Observatory at the ropeway station where you can see Fuji on a clear day.
Mothers is a souvenir shop and cafe here too as well
As food stalls to try some Japanese dishes.

An impressive display of Rodin exhibits. Start off with a leisurely walk through the sculpture garden, and come into the spacious museum to admire the Gates of Hell and meet The Thinker. An enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The nearest rail station (kenritsu-bijyutsujkan-mae) is only about 15 minutes' walk away.

The attraction is a very significant part of Japanese Shogunate history, however there were very few remains of the original buildings at the Castle ground. In fact, Shizuoka Castle (Sumpu Castle) had been converted into Sumpu Park. We visited the reconstruction of the East Gate (small admission fee) and an adjoining guard tower and there were some but limited number of exhibits in it.
It would be unfair to make comparisons with other Castles in Japan but this location is in fact a park with a reconstruction of a significant part of the original castle.
We drove here and the closest car park we found was at the Sports Institute located at the north side of the park.
We visited in Winter and learned from the staff that the park is also famous for it's Japanese Garden which get very popular during Sukura (Cherry Blossom) and Momiji (Autumn Leaves) viewing season. Anyway, we came here to see a Castle and it wasn't exactly what we expected. The reconstructed Gate and Tower was still very nice.
