Voorthuizen (Dutch Low Saxon: Voorthuzen) is a village in the municipality of Barneveld, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Voorthuizen was founded, according to legend, near a crossing of a ford ('Voorde') of the Ganzenbeek, a brook that no longer exists, on the road from Amsterdam to Deventer. This road was called a "Hessenweg" ('Hessian road') because seasonal labourers from Westphalia would travel along this road into the Netherlands. Another important road that lead through this place was the trade route from Harderwijk to Wageningen. This made Voorthuizen an important stop along these two routes.

We went for the spareribs and had a couple beers. After finishing we didn't even had to order dessert. Looking forward for our next visit

Especially on weekdays their special menu is excellent! Three courses for €20 and it's ample! Staff is correct and friendly. If I would have to name something negative it would be the somewhat small tables if with more than 2.

We were invited to Oranjerie by some friends. It's very nicely located in the backyard of a castle and it is a former greenhouse for winter storage of orange trees hence the name. Although the interior is quite nice, I felt they could have done much more with the place. For starers, I felt the light was too bright. Secondly, the place has an enourmously high ceiling which definitely qualifies for some chandeliers but instead a couple of rather simple - and bright - lamps hang from it. At some stage there was a very cold draft, albeit that it was the coldest period in the country for God knows how many years. The food was good. We took the chef's surprise menu but had it explained before we ordered. The a la cart menu is somewhat limited. When I asked for the menu, they brought an iPad instead of giving all four of us a menu card. Interesting... Anyway, the food was good apart from the lobster bisque that one of felt was way too creamy. Particularly in the summer this must be a great place to eat. Perhaps than a Very Good. We would come back to try if in the neighbourhood.

Amazing food, awesome service, pleasant people...what more can you ask for. Great variety in the menu, with many traditional dutch foods, but also regular classics. Will definitely be going back

In UK, we used to wait to be seated, here you walk and get served. At first the Dutch lady who served me did not speak much English, and could not tell me the Special, then tried to sell me something off the menu Then got another waiter who was really good, gave me the run down, starters, soups, then mains half a chicken etc.plus help your self salary, Not much to say. If you like Harvester salary, then your be very disappointed here.
Main course, was fantastic, source delivered in little source pans, potatoes diced, and small bowel off coliflower...
Service very fast, not much waiting about between course. Nice location, very clean.
I will be saving this place on Satan, will come back.

"Eethuisje De Heuveltjes" just outside Voorthuizen on the Apeldoorn road is a trusted stop for a quick lunch. Beside French fries and fried eggs, also baguettes and pan cakes are offered. Prices are moderate. The restaurant is very suitable for families with (small) children; beside the children's delight, pan cakes, an outdoor play ground is attached to the restaurant. Prices are moderate and as bonus draft Warsteiner beer can be had.

Please note, my notes and review concern the restaurant part, there's also the so-called bodega part and I am less happy about that part, so I always reserve at the restaurant part. Variety of the menu is great and changes every now and then, also seasonally influenced. Both fish and meats are good, just go here and experience it for yourself.

Nice atmosphere - very cozy place and friendly staff. Without Reservations they were able to give us a nice table inside.
The eel (paling), prepared in 3 different ways, was very tasty.
The thai soup was way too creamy (it needed more liquid) - as a Thai food lover I was disappointed by this dish..
The main dishes were pretty good too: wiener schnitzel and ribs for the kids were found delicious. Fish dishes were nice as well.
The local beers being served were pretty awesome too.

I eat here on a Friday evening and then again on Saturday. Absolutely the best paling I had in all of the Netherlands and the French Fries! Yam! Super fun service as well as fantastic food. The ambience is very cosy and this place has a great outdoor Seating area if you happen to visit on a nice day.
