Holland's most modern city began as a fishing village in the 13th century. It was developing into an industrial and trading power when German bombers destroyed the city center and harbor in 1940. However, Rotterdam's unique architecture now brings many visitors to bike around this urbane, cosmopolitan city. Old Dutch-style houses can still be found in historic Delfshaven, from where the pilgrims set sail in 1620. Cultural offerings from summer's carnival to classical music give Amsterdam competition.

Located very close to the Boymans van Beuningen museum, it is well worth a visit if you are interested in architecture or interior design. The house was designed for one of the directors of the van Nelle factory, his wife and 2 daughters. It is set up as a grand villa, with bedrooms for 2 maids, a studio for the 2 daughters to study, and several large and interconnected rooms. Although the architects did not design the furniture, they did decide upon the furniture that was to be used in the house. Most of that furniture is still present, the original or a replica. Build in 1933, the house is full of technological novelties. Make sure to aks for the free audio guide, as you will see much more as well as hear the reasoning behind several colours.

The Feyenoord Stadium ("De Kuip") is considered the Dutch version of the old Wembley stadium in England.
A very rich history, home of iconic team Feyenoord. Feyenoord was Netherlands first club team to win the European Cup in 1970, the start of the 'golden years' in Dutch football history - including two World Cup finals in '74 and '78.
There is small museum next to the stadium (History Home) and you can get a tour seeing parts of the stadium that are normally not accessible.

One of the nicest zoos I have ever visited. It houses a very wide gamut of species from all over the world. The Oceanium offers a spectacular underwater view due to its glass tunnel. The park is well laid out without any really 'caged' animals. Furthermore it is clean, well maintained and easy to reach by public transport and by car.

The Fenix Food Factory is the new place to experience, eat and buy proper food. You can go for your daily groceries: meat, chess, bread and veggies. But we also have special beers, ciders and freshly roasted coffee. Next to that we organize a lot of events and there always something to eat or drink. If it's sunny we have one of the best views of Rotterdam outside otherwise you can sit in our living room filled with vintage furniture.
Located in an old harbor warehouse in a formerly shady area (red light district) of Rotterdam, Fenix Food Factory is basically a combination of food court and food market great for both visiting and having lunch or dinner (or even breakfast!).
First of all, it looks really great and just by entering the place you will see why. The building and the surroundings (especially the part next to the water) are ugly and industrial and the interior design, while being very trendy and stylish, blends very well with the industrial feel of the whole area. Inside, there is a small gift shop and a brewery (and I think also a wine place).
Besides this, most of the places are more of a market-type of places selling bread, cheese, vegetables and meat. There are a couple of places or so also serving food, one of which I ate at. It was called Rechtstreex and they had a few options of nice, interesting, healthy and cheap food. I ate melanzana and it was amazingly good and costed less than 6 euros.
The whole place is very cozy and you can sit at normal tables or on couches. There is very good wi-fi and I have found myself spending ~3-4 hours there working (there are some power outlets as well). Overall, it's a great place to chill, eat some great, cheap food, drink a Belgian beer and also buy some fresh groceries for home.

Our 6 and 4 year old loved Plaswijckpark. There is plenty of variety across the park - the water slide (although quite cold even on a sunny day), animals, Playgrounds and the stream area (their favourite). We brought a packed lunch because our kids like to eat every 10 mins but, besides the main cafe, the kiosks seemed to have limited snacks available. We spent the whole day here and it really is great value for money!

Breathtaking picturesque beauty, and comes alive in summers. What a great place to walk around, spend some quiet time, take a break from city's hustle-bustle. You'll barely hear a sound from the city. Makes you feel cozy and is a short walk from public transport - thanks to its own tower 'the Euromast'. A good place not only to take your pets, but do a picnic or simply sit down with a book in your hand. Hosts a restaurant as well. The road next to Euromast also has Water Duckie and nearest Tram stop is a few steps away.

Considered an architectural work of art, Rotterdam's imposing bridge that is shaped like a harp soars over the largest harbor in Europe.
The last time I visited Rotterdam, back in 2012, I couldn't find time to visit Erasmusburg. This time I made sure I see this magnificent structure.
This bridge isn't very long but imposing nonetheless.
It was a snowy day but I nonetheless walked across the bridge and then walked back...just to have a feel. It was enjoyable to the core.
Standing on the frame you can have a good view of the city of Rotterdam.
