Things to do in Candelaria

Before you start Reading my review I have four words for you: DO NOT GO THERE.
Having dinner at Villa Tejinera is by far one of the most terrible dining experiences I've ever had. So terrible that it turned out being a funny experience at the end. We couldn't do nothing but laugh at the situation.
We booked a table at the last minute by phone, as this was the only restaurant nearby with available tables. Even though it seems that there's an English speaking staff at Villa Tejinera (they have an English version of their website) then I had to call them three times as the two first persons I reached hung up, as I started speaking English. Finally, I reached someone being able to help me. We were told to show up at 9.30 pm the latest, as they would start serving dinner at that point. The restaurant was not fully booked (I asked on the phone) and around 40-50 guests would attend the New Eve's dinner. There was one menu (4 course including wine, 50 EUR) available this evening.
We arrived on time and were offered apéritifs (mojitos) and then they started to serve canapés four different kinds - all pretty much tasteless. We had to wait for around half an hour before we were seated (on plastic chairs?!). Before the starter was served they were so nice to put on music... Meaning turning on a TV and finding a "classy" radio channel at a volume so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation at the table. Also, the acoustics in the room was almost as bad as the dishes being served. We were the only tourists this evening so we thought that we were in safe hands anyway. When in Rome... That saying doesn't really make any sense on Tenerife! I'm sure that most of the other guests that evening share our opinion. It would be unbelievable if the standard we experienced is the general standard on Tenerife!
There was no information about the menu so we had to guess what we were trying to eat.
The menu:
1. Lukewarm fish soup.
2. Cold puff pastry with lettuce, tomato and fish (or chewing gum?).
3. A strange drink (exotic fruit juice) with a piece of chocolate (?!) dropped into it. The best way to devour a drink is with a spoon... Like us it seemed that none of the other guests had guessed what the extra spoon next to our plates was for. It was for this drink - a "pleasant" surprise the friendly host had added to the menu.
4. The main course - some kind of meat (beef) with mashed potatoes and mushrooms (on paper it looks good), The main course was cold! Really cold as if they had stored it in the fridge. We looked at each other and thought "hey, this might be the way they do it on Tenerife". Then we started eating and it was absolutely tasteless. It was inedible - dog food! We got suspicious that there was something wrong, as the last round of plates served were steaming hot we could see that with the naked eye. It would probably have tasted differently if the dish was hot, but on the other hand dog food is dog food no matter if it's cold or hot...
5. Time for dessert - we had deserved it! Bad tasting chocolate cake that didn't look like it was home made.
Overall, it was among if not the worst dinner we've been served at a (so called) restaurant. A lot of leftovers from all the guests must have kept the dish washer busy and I wouldn't be surprised if they ran out of trash bags - and it mustn't have been satisfying for the chef (if there was one?) at all.
At some point they switched from the radio channel to a movie, which we were watching for five minutes and I must admit that I had preferred to watch a Martin Lawrence (not my favorite actor at all!) movie to celebrating New Year's Eve at Villa Tejinera, but as I already wrote - we couldn't really do nothing but laugh at the situation so they didn't manage to entirely spoil our evening. Ten minutes after midnight and after having sipped to the champagne (it was more likely sparkling wine) we left one experience richer.

The restaurant La Casona del Vino is in the well known town of Candelaria, Tenerife. It is and old but charm reformed building, typical canarian, where you can enjoy of typical canarian specialities, Spanish food, and also international dishes. Our main goal is to work hard on the quality of all ingredients and also in a professional and friendly service, making a unique experience for all our customers.
We had lunch at La Casona and really enjoyed our experience. Cristian our waiter was very nice. The food is priced slightly above average but it is definitely worth the treat. We had house salad, salmon bruscetta and the queso asado as starters. Our main was arroz caldoso de pescado and marisco. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. Besides us there were hardly any others tourists but mostly locals. Always a good sign ;). We would definitely return!

Pulpo frita and all kind of shrimps were like poetry to me. So delicious! We went there because of beautiful smell of meals and the huge amount of local people in there. The intuition was correct, we've been there two more times pendant our stay on Tenerife

Eclectic Cafe is a place where gastronomy, art and good taste go hand in hand. We are an open, multicultural and constantly moving space, which brings together artists and craftsmen to exhibit their work. We offer a menu of delicious homemade desserts, as well as different types of teas, where we emphasize and Matcha Chai, Indian and Japanese teas. Bagels and sandwiches are strong demand, and it is noteworthy that since we support the culture Eclectic freely exchanging books.
We were staying at the Catalonia Punta Del Rey but had heard about Cafe Eclectico, as you leave the hotel, turn left and walk for about 200 yards and it is on the left opposite Mercadona. Cafe Eclectico is a Library, a museum, an art...MoreWe are very grateful for your words, and especially for your visits. We would love to have you back when you return to Tenerife.

Set on the sea front but away from the main thoroughfare is this gem of a restaurant. We had lapas, fresh tuna and chipirones washed down with some decent house red wine - service is very friendly with no English spoken- total bill 23 euro for what was exceptional food. Give this establishment a try if you are in Candelaria - you will not regret your visit !

Found this by accident after wandering up a side street. Loads of cakes (homemade), pies and probably loads of other stuff too. Went for the cakes and wasn't disappointed.
Nice outdoor Seating area with a welcome sunshade. Friendly staff who speak English, but lots of the menu is in English anyway so if your Spanish isn't great you'll still be fine.
Had two trips so data and will try and fit more in while we're here

While visiting Puerto de la Cruz in August, I visited La Cofradia on a recommendation by a local. The recommendation turned out to be perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere sitting right by the ocean and the food was magnificent. It is famous for its fresh fish. I ordered a-half portion of their mussels in white wine. They were very, very good and some of the largest I have eaten. I ate the entire order. The waiter and staff made me feel welcome and the service was excellent. I wish I could return and bring my husband.

This restaurant sitting on the square opposite the Basilica and the famous Guanche statues offers set low price meal deals with a drink included (18 euros for 2 people) . It also offers other meals and a range of tasty desserts. There are a number of restaurants sharing the same frontage onto the Plaza so if this doesn't suit there are alternatives readily available in this great location. When we were there the service was very slow as it was quite busy compared to the more expensive 'Abeulos' next door. As we were on 'Island Time' it didn't really matter to us.
