this restaurant is not what it appears to be!
the service was below average, the food was of the same standard and the prices were above the german average.
the french service was a joke, since the waiters did not know, what below the cloche!
how can you serve a crispy cordon bleu , steaming under the cloche?
just forget about it!

During my short stay in Todtnau, I had dinner one evening at the Gasthaus-Pension Sonne, with its scenic location in the heart of downtown, practically on the square of the Cathedral. Wanting something light, I ordered the Schwarzwalder Salad Plate. It came, as do most "Salattellers" in the Black Forest, with a delightful variety of tasty vegetables, nicely presented. This plate, a bit to my surprise, was topped with a fried egg (they often have a sliced boiled egg). It included sliced radishes, grated carrots, sliced cucumbers, thinly sliced boiled potatoes, lettuce (two types), red cabbage, and white cabbage, both shredded, of course. Bread was served and it all went well with a nice glass of dry Baden white wine. The service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. Perfect meal for an aging tourist in the beautiful Schwarzwald.

We visited here in conjunction with our rides on the adjacent Hasenhorn coaster. We had a simple meal of grillwurst and pommes; huge portions, well cooked and good value for money. We sat outside to eat with lovely views over the local area; no doubt this place gets extremely busy in the ski season!

My wife and I went to Feldberg in February for a weekend of skiing lessons. After the lessons it was time for lunch and we decided to avoid the overpriced and not-too-good food at the ski resort, and went looking for a place to eat. Tripadvisor didn't show up much - the few restaurants nearby only had reviews in German. After driving for a while we passed by this little hotel, and since we were hungry decided to just go for it. The first good sign when we walked in was that the place was 3/4 full (at 1.30pm). The waitress couldn't speak English (and we can't speak German), but she immediately went to fetch someone else (the owner's wife / sister we think) who could, and provided us English menus. We had the trout (fresh caught from the river running behind the hotel), and a roasted iberico pork. Both were excellent. Midway through our meal, the chef-owner came out to chat with us, tell us more about our meal, where the ingredients came from, and how he prepared them, etc. A hugely personal touch which we appreciated greatly. The wines which we ordered by the glass were both good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the place so much that the next day after our 2nd ski lesson, we didn't bother looking for a restaurant and just came back to this one.

The food at this restaurant is pretty good ( try the steak Leo! ), only this restaurant has the worst service i've ever experienced. The lady, who is one of the co-owners is rude, inpolite and everytime you ask something ( why does it take so long, where are my drinks) it is the customer's fault.
Lately, we tried again because the steaks are good and guess what, we were denied service because someone posted a ( in their eyes) bad review about the service on the internet. We were not allowed to come again which is strange because I know from experience that one bad experience doesn't make a bad restaurant. Only in this case, it seems pretty standard. I never come here again....

After riding the Hasenhorn Coaster we walked around Todtnau. When reaching the main town square we saw this cafe and decided to sit down. Great decision. We had coffee and an apple pie. Perfect. Service is with a smile. Cake and coffee were great. We sat outside in the park area.
Try it out!

This is the top of the Panorama walk from Feldberger Hof starting behind the house of nature. A charming place to stop for a drink and lunch. They offer a lovely vegetable soup with or without sausage. The alpenmacaroni looked amazing! Enjoy a refreshing break before heading back down the mountain.
