Enschede (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɛnsxəˌdeː] ( listen)), also known as Eanske [ˈɛːnskə] in the local dialect of Twents, is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands in the province of Overijssel and in the Twente region. The municipality of Enschede consisted of the city of Enschede until 1935, when the rural municipality of Lonneker, which surrounded the city, was annexed after the rapid industrial expansion of Enschede which began in the 1860s and involved the building of railways and the digging of the Twentekanaal.

We never knew about this gem of Enschede, but the Rijksmuseum Twenthe deserves to be on your list if you love art and enjoyed the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The museum is spacious and much of what you see is a real gift of the late Jan Herman van Heek (a succesful textile entrepreneur and his family) to the city of Enschede, the Dutch people and to visitors from all over the world. Jan Herman van Heek was born in Enschede on 20 October 1873 and died in Doetinchem on 25 January 1957. The museum is very spacious and has lots of important pieces. You will easily spend hours there. We will come back to this museum in the future.

This museum gives a comprehensive review of the history of Twente (a region in East-Netherlands) from the geological times to the very recent events. It is presented with a good taste and the balance of topics and times. The permanent exhibition is well-sized, you can spend 2-3 hours without ever getting bored - and you will still discover many details when you later re-visit it.

May not have the greatest Football team in the world, no Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie, but the athmosphere during a game is incredible. The Twente supporters produce some inspiring and eyecatching Banners before kick off to welcome the team, mostly the breath of the Stadium!
As for the facilities in the Stadium, they are very good. Numerous restaurants to choose from, my favorite beiing the "Cook & Play". Only down side is during match day if you have no reserved parking it can be a hassle. Over all a great experience, even for non football lovers.

Large floor, really modern, with a reasonable choice of machines. The atmosphere is friendly, the restaurant is nice and not so pricy. World cuisine is queen here, but all dishes a nicely prepared and quite good. That is a very good place to chill out and have some gaming fun. I recommand to all people who would like to have a first Casino experience.

It does not matter if you are religious or not, if you believe in the evil of men or not. This place is a sad reminder of what happened after WWII in this region of Twente. Before, there were almost all religions living happily, now, there are less than 100 jews. If you are insensible to sufferings of one part of humanity, then probably you don't need to see this great building.

We so lucked out on our walk of the city of Enschede that it happened to be 'open church Saturday'. That is often the case in the summer months. We walked in and were welcomed by a very enthusiastic and friendly volunteer who told us about the fact that the building's architectural features were very new to the area. The architects, in their early forties, got a free hand from the church society and got their inspiration from middle eastern influences. That is clearly visible inside the church. Standing in front of the church you would not expect the dome ceiling. Come in and enjoy!

The Wilminktheater is a tribute to the late Willem Wilmink (1936-2003). That Dutch poet, writer and singer from the city of Enschede (born and died there). The theatre's programming tries to fulfill everyone's wishes, so it is eclectic. Pop, dance, plays, choirs, children's Performances, opera, musicals, ballet, ... The city of Enschede and citizens from the surrounding region can be very happy to have access to this theatre.
