Never had the chance to visit the castle inside but the outside is very beautiful. I heard it was sold to a wealthy man a few years ago for lots of money. He doesn't seem to have plans to resell it. I wonder why :)

Tyne Cot Cemetery

It is now the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world in terms of burials. At the suggestion of King George V, who visited the cemetery in 1922, the Cross of Sacrifice was placed on the original large pill-box. There are three other pill-boxes in the cemetery. There are now 11,956 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in Tyne Cot Cemetery. 8,369 of the burials are unidentified but there are special memorials to more than 80 casualties known or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials commemorate 20 casualties whose graves were destroyed by shell fire. There are 4 German burials, 3 being unidentified. The cemetery was designed by Sir Herbert Baker. The TYNE COT MEMORIAL forms the north-eastern boundary of Tyne Cot Cemetery and commemorates nearly 35,000 servicemen from the United Kingdom and New Zealand who died in the Ypres Salient after 16 August 1917 and whose graves are not known. The memorial stands close to the farthest point in Belgium reached by Commonwealth forces in the First World War until the final advance to victory. The memorial was designed by Sir Herbert Baker with sculpture by F V Blundstone.

This cemetery is a bit further away from Ypres so it is less visited. The cemetery, despite the smaller number of graves, is quite large because the soldiers are buried in individual graves instead of collective graves. It is a very nice cemetery, also because of the differences in altitude.

New brewery finished in 2016 and this is a great facility not only for the tour but also for the Brasserie and meeting facilities.
We were met by our guide who gave us the tour in English and explained the brewing process and history of the site. We got to sample 1 of the local beers, taste some of the specially made (beer filled) chocolates and even came away with 2 bottles of beer. We visited the shop which had an array of gifts.
15 euros is admission price - if you dine in the Brasserie and show your ticket from the tour you get a 3 euro pp discount.
We did not dine in the Brasserie but it looked lovely and we did enjoy a complimentary beer in there at the end of the tour.
Meeting facilities on site looked superb and there was a car event taking place whilst we were there.
Overall I would suggest visiting if you are passing but you do need to pre-book.

We booked a two day tour with Bob to cover both Ypres and the Somme. Bob provides a high level of research for customers with relatives who were involved in the conflict. Our tour was tailored to locations referenced in the written account that my grandfather gave of his period in the Somme. Bob gave us detailed maps with billet and trench locations as mentioned in the account Unfortunately, Bob had to pull out at the last moment, but did arrange for a stand-in (Patrick) to do the Ypres tour. Patrick, himself an experienced ex-soldier, gave a highly knowledgeable and personal tour. The research notes and driving directions were given to us for the Somme tour which we did ourselves. Although we never met Bob, his approach is to be highly recommended, and I not surprised he is given five stars.

I visited this cemetery which commemorates the German dead from WW1. Very different from the Commonwealth Cemeteries but just as thought provoking. The sacrifice of ordinary people in a war to end all wars, it does not lessen the loss on both sides.

Thus place is amazing. Cost 10.50 euro each and is well worth a visit. Take the audio through the house. Very interesting and informative. Tour takes you through the museum down into a reconstruction of underground tunnels then outside to reconstructed trenches. Absolutely amazing and definitely recommend a visit

Eperon d'Or - industriele erfgoedsite

In Eperon d'Or you discover the industrial history of the region. The imposing Art Deco building dates back to 1930, the factory to 1910. Today this old shoe factory is emerging as a real industrial heritage site. The famous brush and shoe industry are at the forefront, but there's also a lot of attention to the wide impact of industrialization on the city, the region and its inhabitants.
